Chances... I've gotta try this.

Asian female, Orange County area. Very average high school, not that great.

Applying to: Yale(EA), Stanford, UCLA, UCSD, UCI

GPA: 4.348 weighted, 3.96 u/w
Rank: 2/295
SAT I: 2010
SAT II: 770 math II, 640 US History

APs: Bio(3), Chem(2), US History(5), Calculus AB(4), Language(3)

Current classes: AP Lit, Physics, Journalism, AP Econ, AP Environmental Science

ECs: Candystriper, National Honors Society(secretary), Academic Decathlon, Varsity Tennis 3 yrs, Environmental Academy(VP), Engineering club(VP), Make a wish(Treasurer), Girls State delegate, Journalism editor

Essays: Pretty good but mediocre, I just talked about basically the ECs above and Girls State.

Major: Biochem, minor in Political Science

What I'm worried about: My AP scores undermine the fact that I'm applying under a biochem major, though I plan to change it once I get into the school I attend(Yale or LA would be ideal).

Any advice or opinions? I just had to see some peer opinions on my chances. Thanks in advance :D

Yale(EA), Stanford - rejected
UCLA - decent chance
UCSD, UCI - in

Are you submitting those AP scores? I would not submit anything under a 3 and maybe not even a 3 to Yale or Stanford.
Yale and Stanford: Reach
UCLA: Possible/Likely
UCSD/UCI: Likely (you are pretty much in)

I agree with the others- Yale and Stanford, no; UCLA, probably yes; UCSD and UCI, yes. Your list is not a good list, at least to an outside observer. (Maybe you had reasons- it looks as if perhaps your parents want a UC unless you can get into one of the very, very top private universities.) Two wild reaches, no realistic reaches, one match, two probable safeties. You should have more than one match and maybe a couple of reasonable reaches. If you wanted to, you could probably find some schools that you still have time to apply to.

lh2007, just wondering, which part of Orange County are you from? =)

I'd say you are a reach at Yale and Stanford. You have good chance at UCLA, and you are in at UCSD and UCI.

By the way, you shouldn't talk about your EC's in your essays...I don't think that's a good idea.

lh2007:

UCLA: Match
UCSD: Safe Match
UCI: Safety

thanks you guys, i think ucla/sd is the realistic choice for me. thanks for putting it in perspective :]
