I am jumping aboard the college admissions chance train. Littleathiest (and by the way you sound like an amazing person, and I'd love to meet you someday!), or any body else for that matter, I was wondering if you could assess my chances at Vassar early decision 1, and answer a couple questions..?

me as number..
GPA: 3.97ish, I think. Ranked in top 5%
ACT: 32 (a bit low on the writing end, though...)

Class wise, I'm taking the hardest ones. 4 years worth of credits in all the core classes.

Extracurrics/ me as a resume:
-I've been in a service club for 4 years. Was an officer the last two years.
-Love music, I've played in both the youth community orchestras in my area, played since I was 12 and all through high school, and it has taken up most of my time. I'm not thaaaat amazing and am not submitting supplements, but I may submit a short piece for your space...
-National Honor society
and some various quirky clubs that I have fun and try to change the world in.
Honors: Honor roll every semester of high school.

Me on my essay and in person!
-I like my essays

I am not great at interviewing so I am toying with the idea of whether to have an interview or not. What do you guys think?

(BTW, a friend recomended this site and I really like it. Where else to talk to everyone applying? good luck to you all.)

hmmm, just read some other posts and I think I'll break down the ACT:
34 English, 34 Math, 31 Reading, 27 Sci, 8 essay (worked extra hard to polish my essay to make up for that)

Hey! I'm a fellow applicant, so probably not much help. Sorry.

Did you take the SAT? I didn't take the ACT, so I'm not too familiar, but yours seems good.

My GPA's about the same as yours, and I think both of ours are a bit higher than average.

You take APs? I do too, but not in math and Science. Did you take them last year and score well? Definitely a plus.

Our extras seem pretty similar. I don't do music, but I'm a Forensics and Newspaper nerd (President and Copy Editor).

Hope my essays are good, I'm about the least objective person in the world.

Have you done an overnight visit? I had one last month and it was really great.

Overall, I think both of us can probably get in, with a little luck. It's DEFINITELY not a safety by any means, but we can probably do it.

Hey there! First off, thanks for the compliment... it's nice to know my input is helpful! That being said, on with your chances...

Overall, I think you're an excellent candidate. Your GPA and class rank are superb and your ACT score puts you right at the 75th-percent quartile for Vassar (which is, of course, a very good place to be). In addition, your ECs sound like they're quite solid. Community service is one of the things colleges most like to see, so the fact that you've participated for four years and have had a leadership position for the past two years is a definite bonus. I would certainly recommend that you submit a brief recording in the YourSpace supplement... even if you aren't "the best" at your instrument, it will help show how important music has been for you.

Lastly, it's really up to you on whether or not you want to interview. I believe interviews are usually given by alums, so they're pretty informal. I personally didn't interview, but would probably recommend it... they're really only supposed to help you. I would say that Vassar is probably a good fit for you.
