Chances: Low GPA, Good SATs

<p>Asian Male from upstate NY, competitive pub school. 30+ go to Ivys, top LACs, top 25 unis.</p>

<p>Major: Biochemistry (Pre-Med), Biological Sciences, History, Econ?!?!?? lol a little bit undecided, but I want to explore!</p>

<p>Applying to Weinberg College of Arts and Science</p>

<p>SAT I:
770 Critical Reading
720 Math
740 Writing, 12 Essay
1490/1600, 2230/2400</p>

<p>SAT IIs:
Math I:730
U.S. History:670 (Evened out by the 5 on the AP?)
Math II:680
Biology-Molecular: 800
Literature: 770
World History: 700
Took a lot of them! </p>

<p>AP: USH - 5, English Lang and Comp - 3, Physics B - 3</p>

<p>GPA: 3.3 UW, no ranking .. sort of screwed here, will it sink me? Our school has no weighted grades. Upward trend.. first quarter grades are well above 3.3.</p>

<p>10 APs by graduation, and ALL honors courses. One of the most rigorous course loads in our school. Could this save me?</p>

Varsity Golf 11th, 12th - Team Captain, would love to play golf in college, but I'm not in the caliber of NU or Division I.
Cinema Lit. Club, Co-Founder, Treasurer: we get very good attendance (up to 80 kids a showing), and show films we think the student body should be aware of.
Teaching Assistant at an elementary summer school, 9th - +50 hrs
ROAR Program (helping elementary kids at magnet schools) - +50 hrs, 10th, 11th, 12th
New York State Math League - 12th
Amnesty - 12th</p>

<p>Did you guys applied ED? That would definitely change your chances.</p>

<p>I think you have a decent shot with the APs and courseload and scores. GPA is pretty low, but it sounds like your schedule and schoolwork make up for it. The only thing is your ECs are a little weak because you don't have anything except golf that you have really good dedication over 4 years and leadership shown to it, but I still think you'll be a fine candidate for admission :) Good luck!</p>

<p>How would applying early desicion affect my chances, I said I am similar to him, ED is for serious folks and it is more competitive would ED + affect me or -affect me?</p>

<p>The deadline has already passed for ED, so you don't really have a choice anymore.</p>

<p>If I'm not mistaken acceptance rate for ED was between 40-45% and regular decision was 29%. So chances are somewhat better for ED. Of course, if you apply ED it is considered binding. Once accepted you would have to withdraw all other applications and attend NU.</p>
