Chances: low SATs but good GPA

HI can a 1520 SAT: 540 CR, 500 M, 480 W get me into UCSD
I have a 4.17 UC Weighted GPA

Took 12 semesters of AP and honors classes

over 300 hours of community service
2 years of employment
and lots of school activities: 3 years Track and Field, Cross Country
2 years NHS, 1 year Bible Club
held leadership position such as Co- Captain, Public Relations Officer, and Historian

I am half Filipino and Half Pacific Islander
I am California Resident
parent income ~$60,000

Want to major in Civil Engineering

What are your SAT II scores?? There's no way I can evaluate you based on their point system. But overall, your SATs really really hurt you especially if you're applying as an engineering major.

I just took the SAT 2's december, I also took the ACT( did horribly i think i got a 22-24)

Your GPA is good, but it would've been nice to have stronger leadership positions since those score you points. Like I said, the SAT scores really kill you for engineering. I think I have to say:

UCSD: Reach (engineering)

That's just my estimate, but anything can happen. Check this out and calculate the points yourself. The cut off points are on the UCSD forum so do an advanced search. I think it was around 7500 something. There is a higher cutoff for engineering though :/

UCSD Freshman Comprehensive Review Process (Dec 2004)

I don't know what you people are talking about, but there is no "higher" cutoff for engineering programs. UCSD excepts you to the university, NOT the program or school. The only exception to that is the impacted majors, which I believe are biochem and bioengineering.

By the way, just to let you know there is no "civil engineering" program at UCSD. We have a strucutural engineering program, where you can have an emphisis in civil structures, but we have no civil engineering program.

Special circumstances and/or personal challenges:

Does having divorced parents count.

Working to contribute to family income AND
a minimum of 20 hours per week during a school year: 250 pts

My dad opened a small business, which required me to work there without pay. Does this count.

I didnt explain in detail any of these issues, if it is counted is it possible they will know

If you really have those special circumstances, then you might be a high match. 1500 isn't that bad, especially with a 4.17, but it's going to not make getting in easy at all.

I am in the same position (1850 SAT but a 4.17 capped UC GPA)

Ill keep my fingers crossed for the both of us!

^You could get into Berkeley/LA with those stats. 1850 is a bit low, but its solid. I've heard of people with a lot less that get a string of admissions from all UCs.

ya, I am in ELC so I am thinking that will give me a leg up (and I think my essays are really great) but I just can't seem to do well on my SATs.

oh well
we will see.
