after reading your stats I can deffinitely say you are in the ballpark, and that you have a good chance of getting admission if you market yourself well - that is, distinguish yourself from the other international overachievers :). Tests and GPAs are OK. The arts supplement thing is great - it could ease your way into Amherst a lot. Are you asking for Financial Aid?

i kind of need it.... but i really want to go there so i guess i wont.... so is Amherst a far reach? reach? or target/reach? for me if i don't apply financial aid?

Amherst is never a sure thing. It is a reach for everyone. All the elite schools are. They have only so many spots and lots of applicants that pretty much have good stats. You have good stats, now it is the essay, etc., that will distinguish you from the thousands who apply and have similar stats. All you can do is apply and hope. You have a shot. Go for it!

My answer would be the same for any kid with 2400 SAT's, 4.0 unweighted and national award. Remember, the school is not just looking for brilliance, but it is also looking for fit. They want a diverse and mixed class, covering all areas. Your hook is the China connection. I don't think there are many kids from China there, so this should help a lot. So, good luck, and work on those essays!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
