Chances me for RD please!

Hi guys,

The more I learn about Tufts, the more I want to attend. In retrospect, I probably should’ve applied ED, but too late now! I’m wondering what my chances are like, even though we’ll all know for sure in a few weeks.

Here’s my info:
Ethnicity & Gender: Caucasian/Female from Minnesota
Intended Major: Biological Sciences, pre-med track
-ACT Score: 34 (single-sitting)
-Weighted GPA: 4.22 on a 4.0 scale (My school doesn’t offer unweighted GPAs, but I have all A’s and 2 A-'s)
-Class Rank: 3/500 (My school is large, rural, and extremely underfunded, so we don’t have many of the resources that other students have access too. Field trips were discontinued 5 years ago.)

AP/CIS Classes Taken or Signed up for: AP Chemistry (Sophomore), AP Calc AB (Junior) and BC (Senior), AP Biology (Junior), AP Physics w/ Calc (Senior), AP Psych (Senior), CIS Public Speaking (Junior), CIS Critical Writing (Senior).

Extracurriculars:
-Peer Leaders
-WEB Leaders
-LINK Leaders
-SADD
-JV/Varsity Tennis (5 years)
-Volunteering in hospital birth place: 250+ hours
-Concert Piano (12 years)
-Apprentice chocolatier with a fine chocolate company (4 years)
-Certified EMR
-AP Bio and Chemistry TA

Honors:
-National Merit Scholar Commended Student
-AP Scholar
-Lettered in Academics every year

Recommendations:
These are probably the strongest part of my application. I have strong, ongoing relationships with the teachers and supervisor who were kind enough to write them for me.

Essays: I spent months on these, and I think they’re pretty Tuftsy. I did my best to show my personality and my commitment to living life as an unbiased person.

Demonstrated Interest:
I visited months ago, requested an interview (didn’t end up getting one because there weren’t enough alumni in my area, hope this isn’t a bad sign), subscribe to Jumbo magazine, etc.

I did apply for financial aid, but my family won’t need more than a third of cost covered by aid.
So far, I’ve been accepted at my flagship state school (Minnesota), UW-Madison, CU-Boulder, and UMich- Ann Arbor.

Thank you and good luck to all waiting!

Hi,
I think for these kinds of things it’s really hard to give you a “chance” on. I personally felt like I wouldn’t get into Tufts because I had slightly lower than average GPA/ACT compared to the kids who went to Tufts from my HS (for reference I had a 4.1-4.2 and most people who got in from my school had 4.3 and 4.4’s).
I think if you have expressed your interest well enough, then you stand a good chance. Tufts really takes interest into account. I also regretted not applying ED (I did RD instead), so I made up for that by writing the most Tufts essay I could possibly write (but also still sound like myself, hope this makes sense) Being genuine in my interview + essays really helped me.
Best of luck.

I think you have good chance (since your ACT score is above 75th percentile) if your essays are strong & interesting and really show who you are as a person. Good luck!
