PLease HELP!

Your SAT and ACT are superb but your gpa might bring u down. University of Texas puts a strong emphasis on GPA unlike many other schools. Id say you are a low reach since you have good EC
Good luck
please chance back
<a href=“What are my chances of getting in to these institutions (UNC Chapel Hill, U Mich Ann-Arbor, U Pitt)? - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums”>What are my chances of getting in to these institutions (UNC Chapel Hill, U Mich Ann-Arbor, U Pitt)? - College Search & Selection - College Confidential Forums;

actually i read my gpa incoreectly it is 3.0/4.0…but yeah…any help

Sorry, but Chinese is not really considered an URM. I would guess a very large number of people with Chinese ancestry are applying to Harvard every year. If your GPA is really a 3.0, move on from that an shoot for something else. To administrators and admissions people good tests and bad gpa often point to lazy student. I had that label myself and it was partly true. Looking back 30 years, I think it was more boredom with the small-town curriculum than anything else. Either way, it is not what you know that matters, it is the competition and your competition for elite schools will eat you alive with a 3.0.

You may want to consider going to UT-San Antonio, or UTD, UTA, UT-Tyler etc. for a year or two and prove that the grades were the fluke, not the test scores. Good luck.

any out of texas schools? @torveaux

NYU??? @Torveaux

I would think any of the ‘secondary’ state schools. Most of them have minor campuses. Wisconsin’s main campus is in Madison, but the Milwaukee, Eau Claire, La Crosse campuses are all 4 year schools (Wisconsin has 10 or 11 I think). Most state school systems have similar options. I only mentioned Texas schools because you live there and well, so do I, so I thought maybe it would be easier for you to find one. NYU is actually a pretty good school. You could contact schools in which you are interested and see if they have a ‘feeder’ school or a prep school that is used for potential admits later.

so is NYU a reachable goal sir?? @torveaux i have not posted everything on here just for safety reasons…but thank you sir/maa…you are really a great help

NYU is a very good school. What I meant by that is that it may be tough to get in there too. We did not research that one for S1 because he had no interest in New York, too big for his tastes. I only know 1 person who went there and she was 3rd or 4th out of a class of over 600 and had ESL and a number of other awesome items on her resume. Sadly, she did not finish there.

If you really want New York or that area, maybe look at some of the SUNY schools (State University of New York). They are all a little different, but you may get an idea on their websites what sort of chances you would have. I would expect them to be very good at most SUNY campuses. Maybe some other posters here can help. There are separate forums for many colleges. Maybe look out there.

Completely understand about safety. Good thing you are staying safe. …BTW it is sir, but Torveaux is fine.
