Hi, I'm interested in going to Middlebury next year and I hope you guys can chance me. Thanks a lot!

White Male
I go to a decent public school in Washington state that sends a few graduates every year to top schools

GPA: 3.89 unweighted, with 4 IB classes
SAT: 2060 (650 CR, 650 M, 760 W)
SAT II: Haven't taken, should I?

EC's
4 years Varsity Cross Country
4 years Varsity Track
All-league in both sports, 2 years
Possible recruited athlete
Various volunteer and work experience
Writer for school newspaper
Served as a page for Washington State Legislature
and some other minor stuff I'm forgetting...

If I were you, I'd try and play the recruited athlete part up and touch base with those contacts almost immediately. I would also consider what the other students from your school are like compared to your stats, that might give you a good indication. All in all, it's a crap shoot. while your stats look good, they look like alot of other people in the same crowd and it could go either way. If you are serious about the school, I'd show as much interest as you can and get to know your admissions rep personally to pull for you.

m301, Flyboy's advise is wise--- if you are committed to running in college! Compare your times in your best event(s) to the top 3 athletes in the NESCAC (Middlebury's conference). High school students with comparable times are often recruited. Consider completing the recruiting form, call the coach and visit this summer. If you are offered a tip or slot you have an excellent chance of being admitted. Best of luck to you.

I was accepted this year to Midd and I only got a 1980 on my SATs (690 math, 650 CR, 640 W) and I am a White, non-athlete......so obviously GPA, Course rigor, extra-curriculars and essays are more important.

Then again, my SAT scores were probably the reason I was waitlisted at Colby, Bates, Vassar and Hamilton. Nevertheless, these tests aren't super-important and I got into several first tier universities/colleges (including Midd where I am going) with a 1980.

just look on college board website. they have all the 25%-75% ranges for all schools. and yes im pretty sure a 1980 would be in the bottom half for sure.

Certainly, there are people who get in with 1980s and another part of your app must have stood out, but overall the SAT range (25-75) is 1910-2210, so a 2060 would put the OP at about the 50th percentile. Raise the score if possible, certainly, but not a necessity.

According to the Midd website a 1980 was at the 25 percentile mark, so yeah it's on the low edge, but 25% of the admitted class had lower scores than me

Keep in mind that the class profile includes scores for all matriculating students, including those who chose not to have their scores evaluated for admissions.
