Do you guys think I could get in? My grades are weak and I could use more awards....but I think i show that I'm really into current events and politics.....any current Mid students have any comments?

it seems like a stretch, unfortunately. midd got really competitive the past two years and will likely get even more this year. your ECs seem cool, as well as your SATs, but GPA is one of the most important elements of your application and it seems like yours won't just cut it. maybe you can increase it in the first semester and that can seem nice--and your SATs can compensate it?

Do you have a compelling reason why your GPA took such a big dip your junior year? Unfortunately, that will be a red flag when they read your application.

I do alumni interviews for Middlebury, and I agree with echoes above about how crazy competitive admissions is. I interviewed students last year who had perfect SAT scores, 4.0 GPAs with tough courseloads, a number of interesting ECs, etc. - and they were not accepted. That's not to say there's no hope for you, but just to let you know what the applicant pool is like.

Do you live in an underrepresented part of the country (i.e., anywhere but the northeast)? Can you really bring focus to your ECs? Looks like you excel at writing, and Middlebury values good writers.

i actually reposted this thread under the name "am i midd material"

i left some stuff off...most importantly my junior year GPA... '3.' is really supposed to be '3.7'

and calculate that in my overall GPA is actually about 3.6
