what r my chances at MIT. dont tell me it a really big reach coz of my SAT score coz they dont need it and i wont put in on the application
other schools, r caltech, purdue, michigan, uiuc

Drop Caltech from your list.

MIT is a reach, for an offer of admission to MIT your essays have to be brilliant, so I suggest start working on them ASAP ie, if you have the time. For the rest of your schools, you have a very good chance provided you apply early.

Also consider adding these schools to your list, [ul]
[li]Carnegie Mellon University /url.[/li][li]Cornell University[/li][li]University of Texas in Austin[/li][li]Northwestern University[/li][li]Georgia Institute of Technology[/li][li]Virginia Tech/url[/li][/ul]

good luck

just curious but what do you need to get into caltech???

for internationals: something like published research, RSI or Medals at IMO, IPhO, IOI etc.

darn..i'm not getting in :S

CalTech is harder to get in than MIT?
Surprising...

Caltech admits around 10-15 intls a year + they are not need blind
MIT admits ~100 intls each year and they are need blind

Even then, internationals with medals at international olympiads and RSI have been rejected by MIT before, sadly.

then imagine the situation at Caltech :(

can any body tell me y MIT is such a reach. and dont tell me my sat score. and i have a NATIONAL maths prize. isnt that enough

no .

Dude I have 3 national and 1 international award. Still got deferred at PRINCETON, let alone MIT. :(

hey cud you PM me abt your awards?? ie if you dont mind!!
are they all for compuers??

bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How about posting in the individual forum of Caltech and MIT?

There are 2 students who frequent the Caltech forum, both are members of the admission committee in Caltech, so they will guide you better than us.

hey jwlee i saw your stats, youhave a good chance at Caltech!

i think essays will decide - they are really important

at caltech you definitely need an international awards, and for the MIT eather an international award or realy great academic ach. and ECs

Essays never decide. Admission is not an essay competition. It affects your chances only if it's exceedingly brilliant or totally dull.

Actually essays are important - they don't want to admit folks based on their awards and scores . . . your personality and sentiments are important.
