chances next year - PLEASE review

Heyy everyone…l.was just hoping people could give me some ideas as to if I could realistically get into Columbia ….i used to think I would do ok at an Ivy, but this forum has so many amazingly qualified people, I don’t know where I stand anymore…

Here are my stats….if anyone could give me any feedback I’d be so grateful!!

Taking the hardest courseload available next year – will have 8 APs by the time I graduate
- I heard that Canadian schools are considered more rigorous than US – is this true?

If someone could just give me any advice on where to apply and how realistic my chances at a top school are, I’d really reallllly appreciate it – thanks!!

It sounds like you've got as good a shot as anyone else. It's hard to ever know for sure, but you should stand a reasonable chance. Your interests are diverse and that is a plus for Columbia, if you can communicate your curiosity and passion in your application!

But your stats confuse me a little bit:

You've been in band for 5 years, but only have been a flute player for 2? What did you do for the other 3? And 8 years of kung fu with no black belt — is your school extremely difficult?

abcdefghijklm - haha im sorry about the stats, i messed up in the post....for flute (2 years) i meant ive done 2 years of exams in them..ive been playing the flute for 6 years now :)....also, with kung fu i had to leave my school last year 2 days before the brown belt exam and i cant pursue it in canada...im still involved with it by myself but not actually learning...are you familiar with kung fu? because i know it takes longer to get a black belt in kf than other martial arts...thats another reason

DrEaMPrYnCeZz - what are ur stats like? if i got into harvard i'd die of happiness...congratS!!! thats so amazing...u must be so glad...

thanks a lot, both of you - please keep giving me any advice u may have :) thanks!

take up leadership positions. Colleges love leadership positions. Otherwise, i think u got as good a chance as anyone else (be warned.. nowadays those percents dip lower and lower.... = O ) Truthfully, i see a little bit of a laundry list going on, get more involved in one or two and become AMAZING at it. And try to do something that sticks out. Good luck... and i hope to see you around on campus in 2 years = P.

irock1ce....what sort of leadership positions do you think i should try for...aside from editor of the paper and head of journalism, etc...any ideas?

and thanks a lot for the help...i know i definitely have a laundry list of activites, but ive tried to make sure ive done everything for a while at least...should definitely focus in more on a couple things tho...thanks :)

do what u feel passionate about. im not going to tell you what because i think you should do things that you are interested in. Dont force yourself to do things.
