Chances: NYU, Penn, BostonU, Brown

Hey guys,

Here are my schools so far. I am open to any suggestions about my list.

UPenn (Early), NYU, Brown, Harvard, Boston U, maybe more?
I am interested in majoring in Business

Anyway, my stats are as follows:

GPA: 3.8 UW, 4.6ish W
Rank: Top 5% out of about 500, fairly competitive- not sure of exact rank
SATS: Not taken yet, will take practice course- I am guessing with practice tests around 2200.
I have taken the most rigorous courseload available

ECs:

US House of Representatives Page- Fall semester, Junior Year
JSA Summer School- Princeton- Comparative Govt, Speech Comm
JSA Summer School- Georgetown- Constitutional Law
Current volunteer intern at Congressman Fitzpatricks Local Office- have upwards of 35 to 40 hours done, with plans for much more this coming summer
Volunteer at various political campaigns in '04, cannot wait for '06 campaigns
NHS member
Member of Class Council (elected, same as president, except there are 5 of us)
Band: Marching (Drum major, section leader)
Jazz (in the competitive "A" band)
Captain- Academic Challenge Team- 2nd place freshman year, 1st place sophomore year
Golf Team

I think thats everything--umm, I think my biggest EC is that I was a Congressional Page- they accept 60 kids to do that every semester out of thousands of applicants.

So, please, I am not sure if I covered everything, so let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks a lot guys!

you will definitelly get into N.Y.U. and BostonU, and you match Brown and UPenn requirements

Schools like Georgetown, Emory and Northwestern are all matches and fit in well with the other schools you are considering.

I'd say you stand a good chance at Penn ED (if your recs and essays are solid), while Brown and Harvard are reaches...the latter being a big (but not near-impossible) and the former being a reachy-match.

I really like Brown- would applying early to brown help me there?

bump de bump

de bump de bump

ED is a big plus at Brown, as it is most places.

The adcom told us that they like students who will make use of the open curriculum.

Make sure to take lots of CEEB practice tests for the SATs. At your level of performance, this is crucial to practice from actual CEEB tests. Do a search on Ziggi's SAT advice on this board for more details. The review courses are more effective for lower levels of performance.

Take the SAT's early and take them often.

Keep up the AP load. Be sincere in you essays.

No guarantees, but I think you will get into wherever you ED, HYPS excepted, but even these are definitely possible.

Yeah, I am working on loading up heavy on APs next year and I just got SAT practice materials.... phew this whole college app thing aint easy.

if you score a tad higher on your SATs you'll have a better shot at Penn

What is harder, Penn or Brown? I have been researching and I have all but fallen in love with Brown.

what did you think of jsa?,,,,,,and also...has anyoen taken the ap european history ap exam? how was it?

i know....soooo random

Both Penn and Brown are fantastic schools (they were my 1 and 2). I would recommend that you visit them both and decide after that. A 2200 would put you in range for both of those schools, especially with ED. You'd have very similar stats to mine and I got in Penn ED :D Good luck!
