I was just deferred from Tufts after applying early decision. I was just wondering if anyone knew how many applicants are deferred or what the chances of getting in after being deferred are.
As far as my stats go…I have a feeling it was because of my gpa (roughly 3.7 unweighted). I had a 3.8-3.9 every year, but then suffered tremendously junior year due to a poor grade in AP calculus (I got a 74 for the year) that brought down my junior year gpa to about a 3.5. My ACT is also slightly low (30) but I can’t imagine that being the reason that I was deferred since that won’t be changing in the next few months. As far as extracurriculars go, I have above average EC (published research paper, president of several clubs, cofounder of charity group) and my interviewer told me I had some of the best essays she’s ever read in her 15 years of interviewing and asked to use them as examples. Also, my brother is a current student and my dad went to Tufts and donates every year, so I have legacy.
I was definitely on the lower end but obviously disappointed with their decision. However, Tufts still remains my number one school and I’m willing to do anything to gain an acceptance in RD
