your secondary school report ain't too bad. The things that hit hard are the reading and writing SAT scores, especially the reading. Hopefully MIT and Caltech will overlook it in favor of ur math scores, but the other ivy league schools and such seem out of reach.

I don't have time to take another SAT now..:-(...

id say rejected everywhere.

Sorry

rejected everywhere. your SAT scores arent nearly up to par, retake it and aim for over 700 in reading and writing.

But I am the first generation of immigrants. I moved to US recently...
I called up admissions, and they told me that they will take my TOEFL, do you think that will help?

they will be more lenient with ur reading/writing scores because you're an ESL student

They will be more lenient, but there are yons of Asian aspplicants who have better scores. You really need safety schoolsw.

I hope that is true, and I talked to one of admissiosn lady already,
because I have hearing disability (well, minor hearing loss)..

and I do have safety schools, those are my reach schools...

Even if you get 300 on TOEFL you will still get rejected

any reasons?

No matter what the college says, the TOEFL cannot make up for a poor SAT mark. Have you checked how many people got into MIT with a 510 verbal? 1? They are lenient on ESL but not THAT lenient. Even if you had a IMO Gold medal, I'd say you would still get rejected.

Just trying to be realistic.

Um.. it will be so unfair, plus I know a couple of my friends got in there, who did not have that exceptional SAT verbal scores..

Luckily for you, chocolover, admissions isnt so superficial that they will reject you because of a score. CC users are often harsh because they themselves have fairly low self esteem, or because they do not know what goes on behind the doors of admissions. Shoot for the best, no harm done, and dont let idiots discourage you, or conversly, give you over-confidence, just go for it!

Well, do apply, but Princeton10 is just plain wrong. Scores mean a lot if you're not an athlete, rich or famous, URM, etc. Top schools have tons of applicants who have extremely high stats across the board. The idea that they look at someone with a low 500 score on anything and say we'll take him anyway only lives in the minds of those with below average scores.

Thank you so much, I try to have confidence in myself..:-(

Remember, scores aren't everything. I don't ever post on the what are my chances thread, but I'm making an exeption. No one on this thread is going to be sitting at the desk reading your application. threads because no one here is actually admitting or rejecting you. Your scoes are pretty high, and I disagree with people who say that your scores aren't high enough. As far as I know, MIT doesn't have a strict cutoff for their scores. Colleges don't reject people by looking at their SAT scores. Rejections and well as admissions come from a combination of different things. Chocolover, one of my mentors always tells me not to worry about stuff I can't change. You can't physically change your scores, and you don't think you have the time either. Prove to the college that your test scores are an inaccurate representaiton of who you are and your love for math/science. Just my two cents, but (please don't take offense anyone) I think that when someone posts on the what are my chances thread, they're usually looking for positive feedback. I still don't think that anyone who replies on the what are my chances thread is an actual admissions counselor. The reality of it (this is a strict opinion) is that it doesn't matter what anyone says your chances are because they can't predict. Remember, Ms Cleo went to jail for false predictions!

Ok...I think you have a pretty good shot at MIT... ONLY if you APPLY EARLY!!! I think if you apply early, you would probably get in...

Thank you so much for your reply,

Well, one of the reasons I am applying to MIT is that that is one of the schools who accept the most "international" and "non-native English Speakers"... More and more I think of college applications, I think I worry about it more, it is crazy!

Yeah, and I am applying early, I already submitted my applications (..)

The advice on this thread is pathetic. Anyone care to look up how many people MIT accepted with any score in the 500s the last 4 years?
