Hi! I am currently a Kansas Resident looking to attend University Of Oklahoma! I plan on majoring in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration. I am just simply wondering how likely I am to be accepted. My current GPA is a 2.93 (But rising, hoping for a 3.0 by the end of senior first semester) I have an ACT score of 25 and I plan on taking another test to shoot for a 27. I have 30+ hours of Community Service, and I have spent a year with Track and Field, and two years with a NJROTC program at my school.

Anyone advice, or any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I’d say you stand a pretty good chance right now. It’s still not for certain, but if you get your GPA above a 3.0 and increase your ACT by a couple points, I’d say you can be almost assured of acceptance (barring any disciplinary issues or anything, obviously). Just make sure you have a good first semester of senior year and work on getting that test score up! Good luck!

Thanks a bunch for the response!

You should get into OU but you’ll have to pay much more for it than KU, which is an admissions safety for you.

Unfortunately, KU does not have criminal justice, otherwise I would certainly apply there.

Not trying to talk you out of OU at all, but just want to mention that Wichita State offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Criminal Justice. So if you end up looking in-state, that’s an option.

What do you hope to do with a degree in criminal justice as opposed to say, sociology with a focus on crime? I ask because it seems as though many students view a bachelors of criminal justice as their ticket to being a prosecutor or police officer when it couldn’t be further from the truth. If you’re interested in the field because the subject fascinates you (and please don’t get your information about criminal justice from NCIS lol), that’s an entirely different matter.

Well, I have a very complex plan, but I am currently wanting a career in the FBI, which is why I want the CJ degee. I am also going for a minor in chinese (Which I have already begun learning now.) Criminal Justice for me is a gateway to a military career( Want to do ROTC at OU as well) as a Military Police Officer which will give me my needed years of experience before I can apply for the FBI. They require three years experience before applying. FBI placement is very competitive, so I am trying to make sure I am as desirable as possible.

P.S. Thanks for the Wichita Info! I am going to look at them right now!

Another thing to consider. The military has one of the best language schools in the world. It is likely better than getting a minor.
