<p>Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): 2320 (730 CR, 800 Math, 790 Writing). Took twice but did better in every category second time so I didnt need to superscore
ACT: Didnt feel the need to take after getting my SAT score.
SAT II: 750 Math II, 740 Chemistry
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): My school doesnt do GPAs but Im an A/A- student with 2 B/B+s junior year with incredibly tough Math/Science courses (e.g. Organic chem). My School is very challenging and I take the absolute hardest courses so this didnt worry me particularly, especially because they send in a folder along with my grades to explain how hard the grading system and courses are.
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): Not sure but Im going to guess top 10% - Id say top 3% in the humanities and top 15% in math/sciences. Considering 8 or 9 of the 100 kids from my grade are EDing to Harvard and countless others to other ivies and prestigious schools, this doesnt bother me
AP (place score in parenthesis): 5 on: English literature, AB Calc, US History, AP Chem
IB (place score in parenthesis): n/a
Senior Year Course Load: English (our school doesnt do AP titles for most humanities), Biology, AP Computer Science, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, Government (see above note about course titling)
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): AP Scholar with Distinction, National Latin Exam Gold Medal. in terms of schoolwide awards I was awarded the best sophomore history paper award (which meant a lot considering the kids I was up against)
Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Founder (and sole member its kind of a solo thing) of a program at my grandmothers nursing home. The basic idea is that I bought 2 iPads and a 230 dollar communication app (proloquo2go for anyone interested) with money Id earned lifeguarding, spent a great deal of time at the home and taught staff there how to use the program to communicate with patients who were unable to speak. Lots of local tutoring and working with children in multiple homes/schools/programs with various levels of disability. Very specific/individual project I worked on which involved correspondence with local government about cleaning up an illegally placed compost pile in a municipal lot in my neighborhood. By retaining anonymity (nobodys going to listen to a lowly high school student :p) and using a number of local laws in my favor, I was able to get them to remove the pile. Varsity baseball. Varsity swimming for 3 years I quit as a senior because of family troubles and needing a lot of time to clear my head, do some soul searching and all that good stuff (being the captain of a swim team would have been far too stressful and swimming has always been a source of great anxiety to me). Wrote a research paper about the benefits of a low carbohydrate diet on a type 1 diabetics lifestyle complete with research. Intern at NYC mayors office of environmental remediation for 2 years.
Job/Work Experience: Full time lifeguard over the summer 40 hour weeks.
Volunteer/Community service: 300+ hours, for activities see my extracurrics
Summer Activities: Lifeguard full time from late May to early September. Started sophomore year. Have made a lot of saves, maybe that matters for something? Idk lol. I interned at the NYC Mayors office of Environmental Remediation for two years.
Essays: my common app essay showed a real love of writing and hopefully demonstrated some skill as well. Talked about an experience I had in 3rd grade reading a picture book that intensified my interest in writing and travel and has motivated/inspired me to this day. My supplement is also strong but im not finished editing yet.
Teacher Recommendation: Should be fantastic the teachers who are writing my recommendations both loved me, and my history teacher who wrote one of them was the one who nominated my essay for the award which I won.
Counselor Rec: I know her very well, and since my school is small and personal I have a great relationship with her and we speak on a daily to weekly basis depending on how busy I am. She knows me very well and Im sure she wrote a wonderful, personal rec.
Additional Rec: n/a.
