Chances of Acceptance

Hello there,

I am a high school senior that wants to be in the Coast Guard Academy. Currently, I am taking AP Java, BioChemistry, Honors English, Honors Theology, Spanish and PreCalculus. I have a 3.6 GPA and my SATS are not very good, but I am willing to get them up. My ACT scores are about the same, 23 ACT Composite. I am currently doing Civil Air Patrol, where I am an element leader and the Basketball Coordinator and Captain. I had done the Norwich Future Leader Camp during this past summer, where I was the drill team leader (without rifles). I volunteer constantly in my school and constantly outside of school. I am playing rugby (varsity), indoor track (shot put, varsity) and cross country (JV, varsity letter). I am a Eucharistic Minister at my school and a "so-called" captain of my Cross Country JV team. I was just wondering what my chances of acceptance were into the Academy.

Thanks,
USCGA16

I also did the Cadet for a Day and got a good interview report from my host.

Fewer appointments for the class of 2016 (approximately 50 fewer than 2015) will make the upcoming class VERY competitive. A 23 ACT composite equates to a SAT 1070, which will probably not be competitive for appointment, unless your extra-curriculars and PFE are off the charts. I would advise you to retake the test before the application deadline.
