Chances of Acceptance

I visited the campus this summer and fell absolutely in love with it, and have decided to apply EDII to CAS and CGS. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what my chances are of getting in.

  • African American Female at one of the top high schools in MD
  • Two parent home with an avg. income >150,000 (should I even bother applying for aid?)
  • SAT: 1820 (kind of low I know)
  • GPA: 3.64
  • AP tests taken: Sophomore Year = AP US Gov (3) Junior Year = AP World History (4), AP Psychology (4), AP Lang (3) (Should I submit my Gov score/do I have a choice?)
  • Senior year schedule: Studies of Modern American Culture (H), AP Euro, AP Lit, AP French Lang, AP Biology (double pd.), Calculus (H) (As and Bs in all)
  • Awards/Recognition: AP Scholar with Honors, National Art Honors Society, Honor Roll (at least a 3.0) throughout all of High School
  • ECs: Piano for 11 years, Key Club member for 3 years, High School Ambassador (in charge of giving tours and information to new and prospective students at my school),
  • Undecided Major but most likely Biology

Any info/comments on my chances would be greatly appreciated! :slight_smile:

Likely admitted to CGS. Otherwise a reach.

What’s your GPA trend? You have better odds of getting in with an upward trend once you started taking higher level courses. If your upward trend is strong and you write a stellar essay, I’d say you’d have a shot at CAS (and just check the CGS backup box). Yes, still apply for aid–you have to submit the CSS profile anyway–you never know what BU will offer. They’re weird/holistic with aid.

I have an upwards trend in my grades for sure ( I started out a little poorly freshman year bc I moved from an international school with an IB program in 8th grade) so i think I will be good with that. And thanks for the note about aid, I had heard some varying Opinions on it lol

@mnd2898 No problem! It’s so hard to give advice, re: aid when it comes to BU because they are holistic. It’s a good and bad thing–sometimes they offer a ton of money, and sometimes none!

Your GPA is right on BU’s average (it’s a 3.6 according to the admissions session I recently attended), and your SAT isn’t out of BU’s range! It’s on the low end, but still in the ballpark. I would focus on writing a unique/super personal essay and making your “Why BU” answer as glowing (and non-cliche) as possible. A stellar essay can push you over the edge!

@proudterrier thanks so much!
