Also, what do people suggest doing in order to get my SAT scores up? i tried using a book with practice tests before the first one but it didn't work to well

anyways, just let me know if i have any chance at all. lol, thanks in advance

well, i can't speak for everyone, but my SAT score was a 2200 (M680 CR730 W790), and i never took an SAT course, but i did use the Princeton Review's 11 New SATs book. I don't think Tulane takes/took the Writing section into account, so I'd work on that CR score. I think Tulane'll take the composite scores for the SAT, but I'm not sure. Take English IV AP, since that'll help develop your analytical and writing skills so important for the CR section. Also, read some novels or pieces of literature, if you can, over the summer. That'll help too. Tulane didn't have the essay this year, and I don't know if they will next year, so you might not need one for your application.

Your SAT is below Tulane's average, but being from a top prep school will help you. I think you have a decent chance of getting in, especially with demonstrated interest, but guaranteed you will have to pay full tuition. Tulane's a fun place, you should come.

I would recommend retaking the SAT with an emphasis on critical reading. The two books you should buy are PR's Cracking the SAT and "Up Your Score". Those should get you above 600CR and probably close to 650, and should make your admission very likely pending other things. Being in the top 10% and having an SAT score above Tulane's average will probably put you in the running for merit aid. If you can raise your M/CR to 1350 you have a great chance at getting money. I believe writing is taken into account, but not nearly as much as the traditional M/V.

That being said, I think your Top 10% from an elite prep school and an SAT thats right around Tulane's 25% mark will probably get you admitted. One thing is a very slight gain in your scores will probably help you a great deal so definitely retake the SAT.
