Hi everyone, I'm really enthralled by Elon and would like to know what you think of my chances. Thanks. (I'm still a Junior so I can only show what I have so far)

GPA: 3.35 (88.2)

SATs:Reading: 690
Writing: 680
Math: 650

APs: Calculus AB (I plan on taking BC next year)
English

(There's a system in NYC that allows me to take undergrad courses outside of school which I must apply for and be accepted to: each class is 3 credits)

College Courses: Expository Writing (ENG 120) - B+ (89)
Intro to Psych (PSYCH 100) - B+ (87)
Existentialism (I passed a philosophy entrance examination test in order to take this course) - (PHILO 228)- A (94)

I attend Frank Sinatra School of the Arts with a major in art.
I also have an elective in Theater Design (which I may apply to Elon for)

Extracurriculars:
-Stagecrew (I have been chief set designer of several shows, including a haunted house that was filmed and shown on NY1- a New York news channel)
-Internship with set designer at the Met Opera
-Shoe store worker (mom and pop store) during freshman year
-Several workshops on reviewing theater (went to see off broadway shows, had one piece published for newsletter)
-Six years of attending the Art Students League of New York
-USY (Jewish youth group) chapter "Healing the World" president- I run programs and fundraisers for different causes and charities which occasionally reach to other organizations. I essentially run PR.
-Accepted to Cooper Union Summer Program (exclusive art program)
-Lobbied with Young Judea to several congressmen to discuss bills related to Women's Rights and working against domestic violence.

60 hours of Community Service
45 hours of School Service

Your GPA is low but because Elon looks at everything that makes you who you are, I think you have an excellent chance to be admitted. Be sure you can explain to them what you see in Elon that excites you, and what you have to give.

A fried of my S is studying Theater (set) Design and had an amazing internship last summer, (after his freshmen year). Good Luck…

Your SAT’s are fine for what you want to accomplish…

By the way, 3.35 is my unweighted GPA. But on my first marking period report card I received an 82 (unweighted) on AP Calc, and a 91 on AP English. Next year, besides BC I will be taking a college class in Kant and Macroeconomics. Sorry I forgot. Idk what my weighted GPA would be though… so if anyone can help with that I’d greatly appreciate it.

Hi, thanks for the comments, more would be appreciated.

Also, is my GPA for my college classes weighted? I don’t know, because if it is I would have a 4.3 college class GPA with 9 credits. But I’m not sure if they are. Please help, thanks!

Well many of my art classes are intensive. As in; some are nearly college level, particularly the senior year courses. Many of the students go directly to the top art schools in the country and I essentially have the beginnings of a college portfolio put together. Does it matter? Or just those 5 courses?

As Rodney mentioned earlier, Elon will add +1.0 for all honors classes and +2.0 for AP classes. If you re-calculate your GPA using those weighted point values (just take your end of year final/average grade for each of your core academic classes) you can see how your GPA will stack up to Elon’s. Their average weighted GPA is about 4.0.

Are you planning to major in Art? In that case Elon may require a portfolio (look on their website under Admissions and in the Art dept to find out). If you’re not an Art major, I seriously doubt they’ll include your Art grades - no matter how advanced the classes are. My D took honors Art as her elective for 3 years and AP Studio Art her senior year. I have no idea if they counted her Art grades when they calculated her GPA or not.

Wow, I hope there is some flexibiity in that GPA calculation. My D goes to a dual curriculum religious school. The five secular core subjects then four more (including a second language) that the school considers as important as the secular. They get just as much or more homework in those and are graded even harder and calculate two separate GPAs (she does better in her secular 5 than the religious studies).

How exactly does the calculation work? Are a B and B+ and B- all worth 3? An Honors B worth 4 and an AP B worth 5?
