Chances of Admission Being Rescinded

Hello, so I’ve just been accepted to San Francisco state university (and am waiting to hear from sdsu and sac state, thought I’m most likely to choose sfsu), but during the first semester of my senior year I got a D in chemistry (I took this class thinking it’d be a cake walk and have already passed bio, AP physics and AP environmental science so my science requirement is taken care of, essentially) so I’m wondering what are my chances of having my admission being rescinded? I read that you can validate a chemistry credit for CSU’s if you earn a C- in the next semester, but my friend said any D’s your senior year results in having your acceptance taken back.

You need to ask your school guidance counselor and work on getting that grade up. Look on the college website. Often there will be rules saying no D or F grades. Call the school to find out.

I had almost the same problem. I got an F in precalculus first semester my junior year, but after inquiring MANY MANY times about this to my counselor, she assured me the since I had already completed all of my REQUIRED A-G math classes, the F in precalculus wouldn’t affect my college admissions. Surely enough, this year, I’ve been accepted into multiple schools so far. So since you’ve already fulfilled all of your requirements for science, it shouldn’t affect your admission status.

It may be different since it’s senior year, but I don’t see why. Update me if you learn anything new!

It depends on each CSU. SDSU specifically states that any class even a non a-g course where you receive a D or F grade Senior year could result in your acceptance being rescinded. I would check with each CSU.

I looked on an SDSU site where it stated admission being rescinded *may happen if you get a D or F in any class, but here it reads SDSU and UC campuses specifically for a-g’s and I know that SDSU and cal poly SLO sort of follow different eligibility indexes from the other CSU’s.

Here’s the link^ what do you think??

Should I call SFSU? The guidance counselors at my school don’t know much.

Or write to them, since that’s probably better

I would email each CSU and follow up with a phone call. Some CSU’s are more lenient than others and may just tag your application while waiting for your final year end grades.

Always defer to the schools website and call admissions to get information directly from the source.

@sallyhudson - Gumbymom always offers outstanding advice! Also, regarding the link you posted - the link is specifically for Sweetwater Union High School District students who are in the Compact for Success program with SDSU. These students have a few requirements that are different than/separate from non-Compact SDSU applicants.

@sallyhudson:

The following is copied from the SDSU website::::

Admission is based on self-reported information from your CSUMentor application. Once you are provisionally admitted, we will verify this information against your official transcript. Please make sure to report accurate information.
Your admission may be rescinded for reasons such as the following:
your GPA, test scores or course grades are lower than what you reported on the application.
you miss any admission deadlines.
you earn D or F grades in any coursework (not just a–g courses) taken during your senior year.
you misreported or did not complete a required course.

@sallyhudson:

Here is information regarding SFSU provisional admission. Requirements are not spelled out like SDSU, so I would call admissions to confirm your options and/or status.

Conditional Admission
San Francisco State University may conditionally admit first-time freshmen applicants based on their self-reported academic preparation through the junior year of high school and planned for the senior year. The campus monitors the senior year of study to ensure that admitted students complete their senior year of studies satisfactorily, including the required college preparatory subjects, and graduate from high school. Students are required to submit an official transcript after graduation to certify that all course work has been satisfactorily completed. Official high school transcripts must be received prior to deadline set by the university. In no case may documentation of high school graduation be received any later than the census date for a student’s first term of enrollment. The University may rescind admission decisions, cancel financial aid awards, withdraw housing contracts and cancel any university registration for students who are found not to be eligible after the final transcript has been evaluated.

@Fish125 I am in the compact for success program!

Okay! I’ll call straight away! Thank you so much for taking the time to help me

@Sallyhudson - It is an awesome program!!! For SDSU, have you talked with the staff member at your high school who coordinates the Compact program? If not, you should consider doing so because they are there to support you through the process. You’re definitely not the first SDSU applicant (for both Compact and non-Compact applicants) who have run into this exact same problem, and SDSU really tries to work with the students. They are all about being pro-active, so don’t ever hesitate to reach out to them if you have a question. A couple of years ago, the director of the Compact program for SDSU helped my Aztec kid with a non-Compact issue, and she was absolutely wonderful and very helpful.

@Gumbymom hello! When i talked to my counselor she said I should be fine considering I fufilled the science requirements already, and then when I emailed SFSU they said this;

Thank you for your email. Unfortunately there is no way for us to know if that one grade will jeopardize your admission as admissions is based on not only completing the A-G requirements with C- or higher grades but also your eligibility index score. As long as you have met all of the A-G requirements with C- or higher grades then you should be fine on that area of the admission requirements. As of now, there is no way we can determine what your final high school GPA will be to know if you will meet the minimum eligibility index. Have a nice day.

And since I fufilled the science a-g’s and have A’s in every other class, then I calculated my eligibility index to be over the requirement, and I will be receiving a passing C this semester also! What do you think?

If you meet the conditions noted by SFSU and you end up with a C, then you should be fine. As always defer to the school’s admission policy since they make the ultimate decision.
