Hey tell me:
Do none of you guys get a grade report,as all seem to have sent or are sending numerical marks.

sorry, did not see the comment before. i did not start out thinking that i'll apply to 25. i started out with 15 (with only 2 ivies). but when i got into chicago and gtown during EA...i was like damn...i am good :p so figured that might as well apply everywhere and see if i can get some fin aid as well...
it is costly, but i'd rather spend $2000, then pay $190k in tuition!!! (+as such said that you can ask for application fee waiver)

as far as listing engineering colleges..i am not the best person because i was looking at Operations research/financial engineering and the only schools that offered structured programs were pton, mit, columbia, caltech - but i would think for eng w/fin aid look at
mit, caltech, stanford, pton, columbia, duke, jhu, cornell, dartmouth, etc. sorry couldnt help you much over there...

adi
see u'r pm box

hey vampiro, sorry have a problem with my messengers right now, will add you later :)

no probs.
Dude look I'll tell you what I wanted to ask.
look I have a problem with regard to my early action college.
See I am looking forward to engg. so I have to options either to EA YALE (where entry is tougher relatively) or to ED to Pton (where the acceptance is higher). Now I am not being able to convince myself whether i should apply ED coz I really want to MIT and if I do get in it will sorta be a screwjob for me.
What do you advise regarding this matter.

I'd have gone w/EA Yale

(disclaimer: I am not an expert. Please consult your parents or your counsellors)

Thanks buddy.I am going to do EA yale in fact coz that is what I wanted to do in the first place.

Ok now I complete a century of posts haha.

havaldaar, i was wondering if u took any sat classes. would be really funny if you went to ezra and/or helen too :D

vampiro - want MIT, but doing yale EA?! beats me.

^ exactly what i was thinkin.

if u wanna go to MIT why not apply ED/EA?!?

eh, most people would cut off an arm for a "screwjob" like that! i think u have not realized yet exactly HOW difficult it is to get nto yale/princeton/MIT etc. im sure atleast 200 applicant apply to those places from india alone every year, all of whom have incredible stats and all of them thinkin tha they'll get in.. eventually just 2-5 people get in. this year only 1 girl from bombay got into Yale (and i know her, and she was OUTSTANDING, bu i know several other people who were rejected who were also quite brilliant.)

hell my brother was rejected from HYPSM with 1600/2390, strong grades 9 thru 12..... its a weird game this admissions process...

yes it is but that should not stop me from applying at least.
And MIT does not offer EA to internationals.

to think the same college could produce two people with such different viewpoints.. i was in science as well..and btw.. jai hind doesnt rank.. so just ask your counselor to put top 10% or whatever... if u need to know anything about jai hind lemme know.. who to get recs from, where to get recs from etc... always glad to help an fellow jai hindite..

and one more thing- DONT BOTHER WITH YOUR ATTENDENCE. THEY NEVER BOTHER, ALL THEY DO IS THREATHEN YOU. MAKE SURE U ATTEND PRACTICALS AND UR FINE. AND GIVE PROF SALGARE MY LOVE. LOL

Hey wow you were in Jai hind too? cool lol. Id appreciate knowing who to get recs from, right now im considering asking my comps teachers and maybe Sane or Ajay from Maths. Dunno bout Physics though, that Rohit fellow is really freaky, keeps insulting my my observations in pracs.

Whos Salgare? Yeah attendance is really low, I showed up for a lecture with just 8 out of 120 ppl and got free attendance!!!!!!!

lol i took ezra for SAT 1 ,but you know umm the guy's sorta ahem.I used to just go to his center give a practice test and run out, without meeting him.he wanted me to take sat2's....lol i just ran for it.Hey, who dyu reckon i should take for counseling if at all?

By the way you sound...I am pretty sure you can get into Georgia Tech, which isnt that hard to get into

anyone at all-I got an invite for summer college from cornell on the basis of my sat1 score, does that mean much?

Harry, ur advice was for whom? If me... then thank you...

Havaldaar, r u accepted in any university for full time study? If yes then which and what r ur stats plz..

thats what all the guys did!!!!!!! (the girls used to get special attention) but who wants attention from that crazy guy whos in the courtroom more than the classroom (he did tell you about those cases, rite?)

depends on you...if you think that you can write a good essay, meet all the deadlines and all the other stuff...no need for it. but yea it does save a lot of your time..and you can get excellent applications done.. but i think most of the counsellers put a limit on the no. of applications, research about it!! but have heard that the guy with helen (on peddar road), he's really good!!

no gonna apply. my stats as of now are:
SAT1(old): 1500, 750 each, gonna give new SAT
SAT2: Math 2c: 780,
Physics:800
Writing:730(came like a kick in the arse)

TOEFL:233-290, havent got my final score yet

College marks: 83%11th std. top 5% of 600, not really ranked
School:83 ish in school exams
ICSE: 90%(stupid computer exam, got only a 76, spoilt my whole scorecard)
EC's: Unfortunately I wasn't considering applying abroad until late last year so missed out on doing EC's at school. A couple of house activities not too great. HA got to do Intercollege MAths Quiz last year(placed 3rd, stupid quizmaster, we were leading until she screwed up the qs).
My trump card is my story writing. I even got my short story in an intl collection of stories book.
Recs: Hopefully Ill get decent ones.

ok advice for you havaldaar-

1) do NOT and i repeat DO NOT go to Prof Sane for a rec. Wani is really sweet and id advise u to go to her. she's vise princi and i sounds better to get a rec from the vice princi than some random math teacher. (then again, wani taught me bio, she doesnt teach u anything.) thakur is good for admin stff like fillin out forms etc.

2)
