Chances of admission for a student from India

Hey, by the sound of it I suppose Halvaldar that you are getting all your reccs from science teachers. Is that ok with the colleges?
I think they need one (science or math) and one (arts, humanities or language) teacher recc.
And does a computer science teacher qualify as a science/math teacher

Anyone here, who is already accepted in a US Univ., can give me the photocopy of his app. form?? ;)
I would be very happy to get one... Becuz I dont have any school counsellors to get the right format. Cheers!!

"stop whining and go do something about it."

Illbeback-Whaddya mean?

u have 6-9 months to pursue ECs that you are really passionate about...so use this time wisely and if you have the time, motivation and inclination to pursue some ecs - do it NOW...

I dont get it when people say pursue your EC's that you're passionate about, if you are passionate about it you would anyway be doing it right now. No one needs to tell you to 'conduct research' projects or play a sport, you gotta do it without any external influence.

And the best thing you can do right now is stay away from CC. Its very addictive, and although its very informative, it definitely does more harm than good.

Just my advice and opinion :)

Im passionate about writing, but I can't find any competitions to lob my stories at. Apart from that, Im not really sure what to do. Im not great shakes at most sports except for swimming and I usually play with my friends just for fun. Debates and all...well I don't think they are open to SYJC students, although Ill try for the JHMUN.
Okay so lack of ECs is one minus point for having left school.

not really...sometime (atleast for me) people need a catalyst or ignition to jumpstart actions...because it is always that first step...that is usually the most difficult...maybe college apps deadline could provide that ignition that some1 needed to actually pursue that they have always wanted to...

Interesting theory adides.

Havaldaar: "Im passionate about writing, but I can't find any competitions to lob my stories at."
Come on! Write some stuff for yourself if you're "passionate" about it. Who needs competitions? I mean I'm passionate about music, so I compose songs. Never entered any competition or whatever, but it definitely takes away a large chunk of my free time.

i DO write for myself, but it would be nice to get recognition once ina while. ITs like if you're good at footie, no one's really gonna care unless you showcase whatever talent you have in a tournament.

Havaldaar competitions are not very important (exception: international science & mathematics olympiads).

IMO if you send some of your best work along with your applications, that might do the trick. For eg, 'perfectdark9' and 'Oh!Laila' are both writers (that was their main EC) and they both were accepted to MIT :). Try and get hold of them ;).

Well if someone wants to do something and hasn't done anything about it yet then I wouldn't call it passion. If someone is really passionate he/she will not wait for a particular time or opportunity, they'll create the perfect time and place themselves. If anyone does it just due to college application deadlines, then its just because he/she wants something more substantial to put on the applications.

^ My strong belief

Thanks Ill do that

hahaha my mates tried out for the physics olmpiad and they couldn't even finish one side of the paper

Hi all! Oh!Laila u r from which city and what r ur stats?
Sorry for bugging...

ronty - a suggestion. Use the search posts feature, and search for "stats" in Laila's posts only. that way you'll find her stats post, so no need to oblige anyone.

thanx merc... i will follow ur advice....

Hi I am looking for a Under graduate course in psychology
CAn someone advise which are the colleges to focus on?
thanx

i dont kno why, but almost NO ONE considers community colleges... They offer some decent stuff like 2+2 programs n all so one can easily transfer to the college of ones' choice after 2 years and good grades.
Like i wanted U of Rochester... so i applied to Monroe Community College as well as U of R... (MCC is like..under U of R)
Got admission in both eventually...but still.. Community colleges are cheaper and easy to get into..plus most of 'em offer 2+2s..

Thanx Paranoid.

we are not too keen on community colleges--prefering colleges where one can study right thru till masters and maybe even a doctorate if possible.

Are there Good ones which do not require SAT IIs by any chance.
my son as of now has a V 550 M 720 W 660 and a SAT II maths IIc 670.

I don't think the score is too high to get into a Liberal Art COllege of international repute.
