Chances of Admission to Washington University in St. Louis

I am a Junior at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka Kansas. I want to know what my chances are for both Early Decision and Regular Decision at Washington University in St. Louis.

GPA: 4.0 Unweighted and 4.5 Weighted but by my senior year my weighted GPA should be approximately 4.8
Class Rank: 7 out of 450 but should go up by senior year
ACT: 27 but assume that I at least get it to a 33 by the time I apply
SAT 2 Chemistry: 750
SAT 2 Math 2: 690 but I'm taking it again and will definitely get above a 700

I am a 3 year varsity soccer player and have won a 6A state championship in Kansas, its very competitive
I played 1 year of interscholastic basketball and 2 years of intramural basketball
I have placed 2nd at a scholar's bowl tournament and will be on varsity next year
I placed 2nd at a novice debate tournament
I am in NHS
I am in Math Club and Young Libertarians
I plan on applying for student council my senior year even though its a little late it sounds fun

I have volunteered at the following places
Hyvee Community Garden
Harvesters (Food Bank)
Let's Help (Clothing Bank and Soup Kitchen)
Public Library
Topeka Youth Council
Various Soccer Camps
Helping Hands Humane Society
Bikes for Tykes

I will have taken the following AP Courses:
Chemistry, Biology, Physics, US History, English, Art History, Comparative Government, US Government, Calculus AB, and Calculus BC

I will have taken the following Honors Classes:
Honors Humanities (Full Year), Biology 1 and 2, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry (Independent Study), Honors English all 4 years, and pretty much any other core class that can be weighted

My dad went to medical school at Washington University in St. Louis but didn't finish because of financial issues.

I am going to try and get my ACT score way higher to like a 32 or 33. I will take it 2 more times and every time I take it my score normally goes up by like 3 points so it might be possible.

Even though I have a low ACT score i'm going to take it 2 more times to try and get it to at least a 32 hopefully higher

Your ACT score is way too low for Wash U and I’m not sure why you think you can easily raise it to 32 or above. Perhaps you should try your hand at the SAT. Have you taken the SAT yet?

I really couldn’t see you getting into WUSTL unless you get that ACT score up. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to try the SAT as many people do better on one test. Also, if you’re really competitive in sports, you should try to contact a coach from WUSTL and see if he/she can help increase your chances at admission.

P.S. You should post your thread here:

I think I can raise my ACT score easily because i have taken it 3 times, I have never studied for it, and my scores keep going up, they have increased from a 24 to a 27 to a 30. The 30 was a practice test but was still realistic. I know I have the ability to score in the mid 30’s but I haven’t taken the ACT seriously until now. And I tried the SAT but i only got a 1790 so I guess standardized testing just isn’t my thing but for now lets assume that I do get my ACT score up to the 32-34 range needed, do you think that is the only thing I’m missing?

Also thank you for your responses!

It’s good that you have confidence in yourself to improve your ACT scores, but that’s easier said than done. It’s a high reach at the moment.

Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1662008-2-8-gpa-2000-first-time-sat-urm-umass-amherst-others-ea.html#latest

The only thing i can say is your ACT score, write some bomb ass essays and you’ll be good. You’ll need a 32 or higher to be competitive at Wash U. And be careful with the practice tests because I’ve consistently scored 34’s on mine but i got a 32, anything can happen on test day !
Good luck though! You can do it.

Ok so just to be clear, with a strong ACT score I can be a competitive applicant?

And thanks! Appreciate the encouragement!

Yes, yes you can!

A rise of that magnitude is highly unlikely.
