Chances of Admission

Okay so I would really appreciate it if you only answered if you are educated about the UGA Admissions process. Thanks!

I am wanting fall admission in 2012 to UGA and I am applying regular decision, tell me what you think my chances are...

I have a 3.7 GPA (calculated on their terms)

I have taken 8 Joint Enrollment Classes (Three were college level honors classes) which means I am going into UGA with more than 30 hours of college credit.

My SAT isn't that great so I am not submitting it, but my ACT is 31.

I have a ton of community service, and community envolvement, and I ran cross country for a year.

I am a white female who is a GA resident.

I am awesome at writing and have been working on my admissions essay's so that they are perfect, and I also have an awesome reccomendation letter from a teacher from my joint enrollment classes at Gainesville State College who not only graduated with a Masters from UGA but was a professor there for fifteen years.

So tell me my chances? Anyone with similar statistics been accepted or denied?

With a 3.7 gpa and a 31 on the ACT, you have an excellent shot for admission. Why aren’t you applying for early action? That would be the easiest route and you’d know in early December.

Best of luck to you.

I am not applying for early action because I do not have a 4.0 and it is solely based on GPA. I was advised by my high school counselor to apply regular decision - plus I don’t know if I could handle the stress of being deferred. :O

Check out the link from the UGA Admissions Blog. David Graves writes a very good blog with lots of information regarding the admissions process for UGA. Early action admissions looks at a combination of grades, rigor of curriculum, and test scores.

Not every UGA student graduated from high school with a 4.0 gpa. Your 3.7 is competitive, especially if contains just a handful of B’s. If there is a failing grade in there, that might require an explanation. It would be worth your while to visit UGA before the early action application is due and make an appointment with admissions to discuss your situation.

[Advice about the UGA Admission Process: Early Action vs. Regular Decision](http://ugaadmissions.blogspot.com/p/early-action-vs-reg-decision.html)

Below is part of the press release regarding the class of 2011 early action applicants.

“This year’s early-action applicant pool is again academically strong and diverse. Those offered admission at this point have an academic grade point average mid-range of 3.83-4.07, an SAT mid-range of 1230-1390 (with a mean SAT writing score of 652) or a mean ACT range of 28-32. UGA requires students to submit writing scores with their ACT and SAT tests and those scores are an integral part of the selection process, McDuff said. Those students admitted through early action also took an average of six Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate classes.”

Here is a link to the first year profile for the entire 2011 class.

Thanks! I have actually been to the blog before and found it very helpful. I will look into early admission and consider it!

Also, it has been the experience in our area that if you apply early action and are deferred, you will hear of your acceptance earlier than if you just applied regular decision.

Don’t listen to your Guidance counsler. 70% of the kids admitted to UGA come through EA. DO NOT WAIT! Get it done.

I think you are very competitive for EA and you should try for that. It doesn’t hurt your chances for RD by doing EA so I don’t understand why your GC would steer you away from that.
