I am a junior in high school currently, however I want to see what my chances will be for Richmond next year. Also hope someone can recommend if I should apply ED I, ED II, or Regular, based on my information below. The below information includes classes I am taking next year.
GPA: 4.3 Weighted
Credits: 6 English, 5 Math, 7 Science, 4 Foreign Language, 5 History, 4 Electives (Art, Medical, Psych)
Dual-Credit: I have will have taken 7 college level classes by next year- including Math, Art, Science, English and History.
Extra-Curricular: Class Secretary, Academic Bowl, 3 Clubs, All-American Scholar, Cheering, Tennis, Volunteering w/ Kids, Elderly and Animals, teach art to kids on the side.
ACT: 34
SAT: 2200 (All-Around)
Other: My Dad graduated from there and I am a Virginia Resident.
I also am aiming for perfect SAT and ACT scores, I’m going to keep taking them. I also am taking the SAT Biology Subject Test in the fall to showcase my science qualities. I intend to major in biology with pre-med advising. Richmond is my #1 choice, other schools I am applying to: Wake Forest, UCLA, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, Virginia Tech, John Hopkins, and USC.
I definitely think you have a shot at UofR! If Richmond is your first choice, I recommend applying ED. Definitely apply by the scholars deadline of Dec 1st (which you can select any decision plan for.
The only reason I was debating ED I and II was because of my ACT/SAT scores. I really wanted to get them perfect. I visited Richmond for an open house and they said they have turned down all sorts of people including those with perfect SAT scores, so I was a little leery to go ahead and apply ED I. Do you think ED applicants have a better shot than Regular?
Your scores are completely fine- in fact way above average for richmond. I honestly don’t think you need to retake them for any of the schools on your list. There is a law of diminishing returns… your scores need to be good enough to qualify you for admission, but once you hit a certain threshhold (2150+), it doesn’t matter what your scores are. They’re treated equally, so perfect SATs will not help your application. ED does have a higher acceptance rate. I honestly think you should stop testing, apply ED, and you should have no problem getting in. Richmond is known to waitlist high stat individuals during RD if they don’t think they’re truly interested in the school.
Thanks so much for the help! I guess the worst scenario would be getting deferred to regular decision. I appreciate the help and will definitely apply by the scholars deadline!
I agree with all of this. Really, no matter where you are applying, perfect scores won’t really help. And I think your scores and grades are plenty high enough for UR.
I agree, I guess I am just overthinking and pushing myself too hard continuously. Thanks so much for your comment, best to you!
