i wrote a pretty good essay (i hope haha.) I explained that i am not good at math - reason for my low gpa, and that i am not a good test taker. i said how much i wanted to go there, and blah blah blah all that good stuff and i should have pretty good teacher recs.

please, i would really like to know my chances. I am so anxious about getting in. like i can't sleep at night, and i have breakdowns every day. i already called the admissions office asking if a decision had been reached - as of today no. ( i applied on oct 7th. got my pitt.edu on like the 11th or 13th or something.) like i honestly don't know what i'll do if i don't get in because all my other schools are pretty reach schools/impossible schools. and i can only go to those schools if i get money.

i am also applying to:
Northwestern ( 1st choice...i know so unrealistic. i know i'm not getting in)
NYU ( same as Northwestern basically)
BU
DePaul ( chicago)
Loyola Chicago
University of Cincinnati
Xavier University ( Cincinnati)

around 34 girls from my high school are applying. 5 already got in.
last year 30 applied and i think 19 or 20 got in.
thanks for reading. good luck to anyone else applying.

45 views? and still nothing? please chance me i would really appreciate it. thanks (:

Your ACT scores and GPA are below Pitt’s average-you may still get in but you should have a back up plan. What about Temple?

You do realize that what people here say really doesn’t mean you will or won’t get in?

They are just opinions.

Maybe if you are so stressed, pick a couple more safety or good match schools to apply to.

I live in philly, so i was kinda want to go to a school in a new city. thanks for the insight.

Look at these schools which might be more target/safety schools

Duquesne
Howard
Catholic U
U Md Baltimore County

rocknroll52: thanks yeah, i am applying to duquesne and catholic u.

You have a good shot at Pitt. Unlike some state universities (Penn State cough, cough), they do look at everything.

You might be asked for your first semester grades. Don’t be discouraged if they ask. Just try your best this semester and if they ask for them, get your grades into them ASAP once available.

thanks quakerstate.

keep chancing me please! thanks!

I’m surprised that you were rejected instead if just deferred (where they ask for first semester grades). You might have moved on to your other choices. But if you do get your ACT up as you expect and get good grades this semester and are still interested, you might want to talk to your college counselor about appealing. See http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-pittsburgh/875405-has-anyone-appealed-rejection-decision.html?highlight=appeal

ahh i saw that someone in the thread that you posted appealed and got in!!! i’m really going to try and get mostly A’s this semester, and appeal. thank you sooo much quakerstate for posting that link.

Hello,

This is my first post, but I’ve been reading forum for several years.

My son applied during 6/26 “Ready Set Pitt” and all of the docs were submitted Oct 14. We had trouble getting the my Pitt info so I called Weds. and was told his app is complete and he should hear from the committee in a couple of weeks.

Most of the acceptances here appear to be from the College of Arts & Science (rightfully so because it’s the largest school) He’s applying to the Business School and wants to dual major in Accounting & Finance.

After reading the credentials of the students accepted thus far, he appears to be lower. He’s also applied to Uni of Wash (Seattle), IUP, Ohio State, UPenn, UVa, and Georgetown. This list includes safe and reach schools.

SAT’s
10/10 CR 590 Math 600 WR 510
3/10 CR 610 Math 540 WR 470

SAT II

Math I 580
US History 650

GPA Unw – 3.4/W – 4.0
Rank 107/367

AP classes:

Govt – Score 3
English – Score 4
Econ/Macro – Score 4
English Lit – Taking now
Econ/Micro – Taking now

All other courses are GT. He’s taken Accounting I & II and is enrolled in the Accounting Academy. He’ll graduate with a HS Diploma and Accounting diploma.

Activities/Clubs

African American Student Association since 9th grade
Stage manager - black history month play (2 yrs)
NHS – inducted last year
Works twice a week for over a year
Community service
Outdoor Track 10 & 12 grades
Basketball Mgr – 10th grade

Does anyone have any experience with Pitt’s Business School based on son’s stats?

Thanks for your advice :-)

Pitt superscores the SAT so your son has a combined 1210, they don’t use the writing score.

Your son’s GPA looks fine and he has taken challenging courses.

Another plus is being an underrepresented minority. As an African American male applicant, he should be in demand by many colleges. I read somewhere that being an African American male was worth as much to admissions as 300 extra SAT points on a 2100 point scale.

In summary, I predict that your son will be accepted to Pitt. Good luck!

Thanks rocknroll52  Hoping for good news very soon. The wait process is what gets ya!
