Chances of Admissions?

I’m looking to attend Harvard University starting in the fall of 2016. I graduated with a 3.8 GPA and received a 2050 on the SAT and 27 on the ACT. I also have EC’s under my belt as I was the captain of the varsity basketball team and track team, member of the National Honors Society. What are the chances of me getting into Harvard?

With that GPA, you’ll need better scores and more outstanding extracurriculars. Since it’s really too late to start new extracurriculars, I’d say your chances are virtually nil.

Maybe there’s something you do outside of class that you didn’t mention here? A commitment to family in the form of a job or taking care of a sick relative really does count, for example.

I was also in debate, student government and tutored other students on the side. Will that improve my chances in any way?

@gibby is IMO the most qualified to answer this question.

@anth1995 are you a URM?

Harvard is a Reach for everyone including perfect GPA and SAT/ACT scores so there is no point to chance. Apply and hope for the best.

@verizonwireless I am URM

Unfortunately, your test scores are too low for Harvard, even with your URM status. That’s because many top URM student’s are now performing at, or about, the same level as non-URM students.

Look through the Class of 2019 Decision Threads – not one URM student who posted their stats on CC in the 2019 Admissions Cycle was accepted with an SAT below 2100 or an ACT below 31. As a result, my best guess is that if you apply with your current test scores, you will be deferred or denied (sorry).
