I’m 17 and dropped out of high school in 11th grade due to unstable living conditions. I decided to go with the alternative option and complete my GED I received the average score of 172 placing me in the top 11 percentile national class rank. I’m not interested in Community College and while looking for Universities I could possibly attend that accepted GED and didn’t require a transfer of some sort there were very few, but luckily I found Arizona State University does and has a very high acceptance rate. I looked at the admission requirements and for ged students it said “General Educational Development - Students may also meet admission requirements by submitting an official GED score of 500 or above for tests taken before January 2014 or a GED score of 170 or above for tests taken after January 2014.” I have a higher score than required and also an SAT score of 1110 (Some people tell me its not required for GED applicants unsure if thats true?) My question also for you guys is do you think im likely to be accepted and is it logical to apply (theres a fee and i dont want to pay it just to be denied) Also if you guys have any further advice on how to increase chances of acceptance or any advice. Thank you! let me know
If you meet the stated admission requirements, you will be accepted. SAT scores are not required for any applicant (even high school graduates) for general ASU admission if they meet other requirements.
I don’t think you can get in with a GED alone because freshman are for HS students, and the only other option is transfer. If you only taken the GED, you aren’t transferring from anywhere. If you go to the transfer page, you will see 3 other requirements after having either, GED, HS Diploma or AA degree.
Transfer students must meet one of the following requirements*:
// less than 24 transferable credit hours:
minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA and meet freshman aptitude requirements (basically you have to meet all reqs. for a freshman and if you dropped out of school then I'm going to assume you didn't, so less than 24 transfer hours won't be an option for you.)
// 24 or more transferable credit hours:
minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA (this is all you need if you're outta state...)
AGEC from an Arizona community college with a 2.50 or higher cumulative GPA
// associate degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution with:
2.00 or higher cumulative GPA (residents)
2.50 or higher cumulative GPA (nonresidents)
I don’t know your situation, but I would rethink community college, you can do half the work at a 4 year college pretty much for free. That’s what I did and if I’m accepted into ASU, all my basic skills classes will be out of the way. For me it’s like, why pay several thousand dollars for a few courses I can complete and transfer for next to nothing.
I personally know a freshman with GED who got accepted for Fall '17 … So yes, it’s possible…Oh, BTW, this student completed SAT too.
