Hi everyone,
I'd like a perspective on my chances of acceptance at UGA. It's my no. 1 school, so I'm hoping my stats are good enough! I know people were posting a lot of these in the other "What are my chances..." thread, and it must be annoying, but please bear with me here. I've been freaking out about applying, and it's not even time yet!

Ok, so...
I'm a rising senior...
GPA : 3.47 unweighted
SAT : 650 verbal, 610 math, 660 writing (1920/2400)
5 AP classes altogether (AP French, AP Lit, AP Lang, AP Studio Art, AP Psychology)

Also, do you think these stats are enough to apply early decision? Or would the essays and recommendations of regular decision help me? I'm thinking early decision, but...it doesn't hurt to have a second opinion. I've heard that they are more lenient with early applicants, and that applying early looks good because it shows you are committed to the school...is that true?

And, about the French/Spanish learning communities...
I am thinking of applying to be part of one if I am accepted at UGA, but I am unsure. Would it be too much for a freshman to take part in all the stuff they do ALONG with all my other coursework?

i had similar stats and was deferred. UGA’s EA isn’t like other EAs where they give you slack for showing interest. Their EA is more like “We are admitting you early because you are THAT good.” At my school, the lowest I knew of with which a person got in EA, was a 3.6 and a 1290/1600

If you’re interested in the learning community, then you should seriously consider it and apply. Anything’s possible if you work hard and don’t party hard.

So should I apply regular decision so my extracuricular activities/essays/recommendations can help balance out my GPA? And if I apply regular decision, will my grades from fall semester of senior year count? Because the classes I’m taking senior year are subjects I’m better at than the ones I’ve taken in the past, so I think my GPA would go up a little bit.

Well, I think you should still apply for EA even if you’re not confident about being accepted. You’re not likely to be rejected, so the worst that could happen is you being deferred.

I am pretty sure they do count fall semester grades because if you are deferred, they give you the chance to send them your fall grades.

Alright, I will give it some more thought and see which Decision plan I will use.
I am going to an admissions info session on Thursday, so maybe that will help me as well.
Thanks for your help!! I really, really appreciate it.
