Chances Of Being Accepted Into Princeton

I am aware that Princeton accepts a significantly higher percentage of applicants from Jersey than any other state/region. I am a true Jersey girl, born and raised.

I am considering applying early to Princeton. It has been my dream school ever since the second grade.

I do not want to waste my single-choice, binding EA though. I would just like a realistic opinion on whether I should bother applying early. If not, I intend on applying to Cornell's ILR school, which I have heard is looking to attract more applicants. I already know I would like to apply as a sophomore to the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Relations.

I am not proud/satisfied by my current stats but is it what it is.

I am ranked 8/422.
My weighted GPA is 5.39
SAT II: 750 in Lit and 730 in US History
SAT Taken once- 2100
*Plan on taking SATS and ACTs in the upcoming months. Average a 34 or 35 in ACT practice tests.
AP- 5 in US History and 5 in Gov, 3 in AB Calc and 3 in European History *
Should I include my 3's?

Will be taking AP Bio, AP Chem, AP Lit and AP Psych this year

Obviously getting is almost like a lottery system with all of the over-qualified candidates, but I would like to know if I have any chance at all.

Ps. I do not plan on mentioning my involvement with any of the clubs besides Student Council, FBLA, and Founding Action for Africa, and possibly Model UN because those are the only clubs I really had time to devote to with my fencing schedule.

You have a great shot! I would try to get your SAT score up but it is a pretty good shot. You’re from NJ, so that is good. I don’t know what your 5.39 is out of. Include your 3s. Princeton wants to see you took the test and at least passed. They don’t matter so much for admission but they do paint a picture of your overall as a candidate.
Overall, good shot. Of course, a better shot at the ILR but show passion for whatever you want to do and perhaps you’re golden.

I wouldn’t consider REA at Princeton a “waste”…especially if it is your top school.

Chance me? We are looking at the same programs at Cornell and Princeton.

Princeton is my favorite school. Unfortunately, I come from Washington. Not a lot of kids get in. I am also looking at Woodrow Wilson, IRL, and Economics.

If you bump up your SAT score 100+ points, you’ll have a much better shot; regardless, it’s a mid reach for you.

Also…EA isn’t binding.

Yes, Princeton’s EA is not binding. The single choice means you can’t apply to early at another private institution, but you can at a PUBLIC one.

you do realize that’s because more Jersey people apply there than any other region…

Pton is a reach for everyone. Your stats and ECs are certainly good enough for admission, but your admission will now rest on your essays and recs.

SAT is fine. But since you took it once. I say if u want to, go for it. Its not necessary though. People on College Confidential think anything less than a 2200 results in an automatic reject. Apply early. I think it helps, and is def not a waste.

Apply early. Your ECs are amazing. You should give us your UW gpa though; colleges only care about that one.
It’s your dream school. You should do as much as you can in order to get in, and that involves applying early. Princeton is never a safe bet though, so do not get your hopes up and start thinking of other colleges. In your case, I would also apply to Columbia, UPenn, UChicago, Duke, Northwestern, Brown, Yale, and even Harvard. I recommend having at least 2 matches and 2 safeties just in case.
Good luck!

Thank you all so much for your insight!!! I am the first kid in my family and my parents are literally going insane over this college stuff

And my unweighted GPA is 3.94/ 4.0 … so mad because I’ve had a 4.0 until a quarter before the end of my junior year :frowning:

But also is it possible to read my recommendations from my teachers?

Also this sounds terribly uneducated but what does mid-reach mean?
