THANK YOU!!!!

I am just the parent of a former attendee and have no inside knowledge into Yale’s selection process. My guess is that admission is determined mostly by your essays, where you will put your list of interests and accomplishments into context for the program leaders. I have the impression that they look for truly intellectually curious, interesting, articulate students who simply like to learn, and aren’t just trying to pad their resume’s or gain admission to a specific school.

If anything, I would put some thought into what that means before you write your application. Above, I see a lot of “checking off of boxes” of things you think might look good on a college application. I honestly think that, for this particular program, YGS is looking for more than that. Do you have any passions or interests that you have pursued for a long time that are unusual and unique to you? Things you did because you loved them, and not to impress an admissions officer? I think that is what you might be missing. I think that in DSs class, only about half of the cohort was even from the US. Maybe not even half. They were from all over the world, had already accomplished amazing things and were unique and interesting outside of the classroom, in addition to being leaders in the classroom and school. So, think about that–what makes you interesting and unique? That is what I think that YGS is looking for.

Thank you so much. That means a lot- I’m still searching for something, but there are a few ideas that stand out. I appreciate your time.

@tryingforharvard‌ I attended the program this past summer for the Politics, Law and Economics session. I would definitely agree with @happykidsmom‌ that essays play a huge role in the admission process. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

@Dilan412‌ Thank you. What did you think of the program, and do you have any overall tips for the application process or specifically for the essays?
