Hi, I'm a 16 year old senior and I'm applying to AMDA to get my BFA in acting. I live on a military installation so I will have to send my audition in by tape. I have been doing theatre most of my life, but didn't really do serious plays until I reached high school. The last play I did I was Sweeney Todd and I played the part of Mrs. Lovett. I've also participated in about five or six other shows and I am a member of my school's Far East Drama Team (basically a team that goes and competes with other high school teams at a tournament in February, the audition process is very rigorous) and I've gotten high marks for my pieces there. However, I have never been able to take a drama course in high school because a course I was required to take always conflicted with it. I have however, learned many of the techniques taught in the drama class because the director teaches them to us during the plays. In addition, I have read many books on theatre to compensate for not being able to learn in the classroom. I've taken advanced classes in high school and have an average GPA of about 3.3, but it'll be higher when I graduate because I've got three AP classes this year and so far I've got straight A's. I also got a five on my AP English Language and Composition exam. I'm just wondering what my chances are of getting into AMDA with my level of training and academic track record. I am not a bad actress, but I want to receive more training and that is my motivation for applying to AMDA. I'm just wondering what you think my chances of getting into the school are.

Also if anyone has any experience with AMDA's BFA program or the LA campus in general, please share this information with me. I'd really like to know about the dorms and see pictures if at all possible. Oh, and if anyone has auditioned for AMDA or any other theatre program by tape, could you tell me how it worked out and if there was any other information you had to have on your tape or had to send along with the application materials?

I’m pretty sure you can’t Audition by tape for AMDA. You’d have to go into a specified audition area and they would have too see you because they have to interview you and they like to see how you work with others, like the accompanist. I can tell you that you most likely have a great chance to get into AMDA. I’m 17 and I auditioned three weeks ago and was accepted, so next year I’ll be in Hollywood. If you have any questions about the audition process just send me a email =)

Really? Because their website said that international students were allowed to audition by videotape. Did you get a chance to see the campus or anything? Or did you audition at another location?

yes, international students are allowed to audition by video. how else are they supposed to get a chance to get accepted. flight tickets arent cheap from Japan lol trust me i know
hey jimothy, what program are you doing? im auditioning soon for either the integrated program or the BFA program. but im caught between going to the NY campus or LA… im going to be starting this coming summer or fall if I get accepted.

ok. im auditioning for AMDA May 15,2010. im very new to this and not to sure what to exspect. Can anyone give me a little info plz!!!
Heres some questions that i would like to know…
*For auditions do they look foward in to you being perfect or do they look for potential?
*How is the interview process?
*What do i wear for auditions?
*How long does it take to find out if your excepted or not?
And if anyone else would like to tell me about auditions, that would be perfect!!

Trevia, when you audition, unless otherwise specified, you should always wear comfortable clothes you can move in. I also think that when you’re auditioning for a theatre school where they will train you they are looking at both your skill and your potential. If you were perfect you wouldn’t need their training, anyway.

Does anyone know what AMDA requires for high school grades to get in ? Rank? Gpa? Im only a sophmore and need to know what I need to work for.
Thanks

Jimothy,
How do you know where the address for your audition is? I “set up an audition,” but the website never gave me an address. Do I bring the rest of my application to the audition? What advice do you have for me, I would like to get a BFA for Performing Arts?

Hey! so i am 17 a junior and AMDA is my top choice i have been in14 productions, so far, and i am just wondering whether or not you think i have an acceptable “resume” so to speak . Likew is that something they are at all looking for. This is my dream school and i would kill, to get in(not literally) Anything i should know about the audition process?..where did you go for yours???

Yeah, I’m kind of wondering what the audition process is like as well. Set up my audition for March- not sure how to prepare? Any suggestions on what monologues to do? Auditioning for the BFA in acting.

I auditioned in December and was accepted onto the New York Campus to do the Studio Program.
The audition has a really good atmosphere! It’s really chilled and everyone is really friendly!

Firstly you arrive and are greeted by people that work at AMDA. Then you fill out a form and wait with the other auditionees until you are called. You then do your audition in a separate room, and have a short interview with your interviewer.
Then you have a second interview with the AMDA staff and then you wait for everyone to complete their auditions after that you have a group meeting about AMDA with the staff, they answer any questions and show you a few videos and have a general chat.

I hope this helps and feel free to message me with any questions.

how long between your audition and until you received the acceptance letter?? My daughter auditioned end of February and its been 2 weeks and haven’t heard anything yet…

Does anyone have any advice on the essay format for admissions? I will be attending an open house soon, so any advice is much appreciated on what I should mentally prepare for audition wise? I think I have found my song…and am still in search for a good monologue.
