My son has decided that he wants to apply to Georgia Tech. Before I start planning a campus visit, I want to make sure he has a reasonable chance of getting in. We do live out of state.

GPA 4.0 weighted/4.28 unweighted (16% of class...very competitive high school)
ACT Composite 31; English 30, Math 34, Reading 28, Science 30
Decent rigor (slow start but finishing strong senior year with 5 AP and 1 honors class)
Solid extra-curriculars

You’re on the low end of competitive…but absolutely in the mix…i think you’ll like the school…my D and I did a visit…she went reluctantly but ended up absolutely loving it…it was a surprise on many levels…i’d say it’s made its way up to a top 5 for her…a list that fluctuates hourly as EA deadlines loom…

Almost too late now, but applying EA is very important!! Last year 40% accepted ea and much less regular admission.

My son did apply EA. I was reading on their website about SAT and ACT scores. It looks if you submit the ACT, they are only interested in the English and Math sections and they will accept them from multiple tests. Is that correct? If it is then my son has a 35 on Math and a 33 on English. That should better his chances?

They also are going to look at his SAT writing or his ACT combined English/writing score

I believe Tech does superscore, which would mean they would use 35 for Math and 33 for English. Those are pretty strong for Tech! Don’t get much better in my opinion.
