Chances of being admitted as a transfer student?! Please help

Hello everyone Im not sure if anyone on here can give me a definite answer but I am hoping for some hope! I recently applied to UD as a transfer student unfortunately I was not accepted as an incoming freshmen student last year so I decided to attend a CC in hopes to be accepted after a year of college. UD is my number one school and both my parents did attend so it was a disappointment to not be accepted last year. If anyone can please give me a range as to where they think I fall for being accepted and the chances are for a student with only one year of college done!

Majors applied for: Biological Sciences and Medical Diagnostics Interest

Current college: Great NJ CC college, with a great letter of reccomendation
Credits: 30
First semester: 2.93

Second semester: 3.75
Overall: 3.37
Ethnicity: Hispanic
Alumni of the school

Classes taken at my school: 2 biology classes, 1 math class, 3 psychology classes, 2 english classes, 1 sociology class and I did check the credit matrix and they all transfer (not sure if they consider that)

Jobs: Cashier and Nanny for over 2 years

Clubs: Secretary of the sociology club, member of the Biology club, psychology club

Community service work: My local church, Hospital, EMT squad, Annual Beach sweeps, and I also help with disabled children.

Obviously no one but Admission’s can give you a definite answer to your question but it would be my perspective that with the info you presented that you certainly have a decent chance of being accepted. Your GPA overall is good and your grades increased from your first to your second semester. Hopefully you got really good grades in the biology courses you took which would probably help. The only area of concern I would have is that the majors you are interested in are very competitive (like most all STEM majors at UD) and the number of available spaces for transfer students is probably less than a number of non-Stem majors. I think you can certainly have some realistic hope of acceptance. Best wishes to you. I also hope it works out well for you.

@Mwallenmd You seem to know quite a bit about UD and your information has been very helpful! I am a female transfer student as well and I also have family members who attended the school… what a coincidence. I am very nervous about being admitted and they just updated my home page to “your application is under review”. I have 32 credits and I just finished with a 3.33… I have been looking everywhere to find an average GPA of admitted transfer students and I can not find anything. Do you have any information on a good GPA as a transfer student? I am an out of state Community College student in PA and I applied for Biology and Psychology (quite different I am fine with either major) I know they still take HS grades/SAT scores into consideration if you have less than 60 credits. Do you know how much emphasis they put on HS grades with a year of college done… my high school grades are not the best but have definitely improved over the years and increasingly improved up to college and I made sure to include my improvement and reasoning for lower high school grades on one of the supplemental questions. I also have a job and lots of involvement in my community and clubs. Sorry for such a long paragraph I am just so nervous/excited and you seem to know a lot so I thought I would give it a shot and ask you!

Also, I have heard rumors that they treat students who had a parent attend the school as they would in state students/ Do you know if that is true? I find that hard to believe.

IMHO I feel, like the initial poster on this thread, that you have a decent chance of being accepted. I am not aware of any specific average GPA for transfer students but your GPA of 3.33 is equivalent to a B+ average at UD (good enough to make the Dean’s List at UD-albeit at the lowest level). While UD does look at HS grades and SAT scores it is my belief that that they focus more so on grades a student gets in college after HS. According to UD’s Common Data Set being a child of an alumnus is considered in the admission’s process but I doubt it would be at the same level as an in-state student (but I don’t know for sure). The majors you applied are very popular majors at UD and therefore it may be a little more competitive for acceptance (but not a lot). Best wishes to you. Hopefully you will hear very soon.

Just wanted to give hope to maybe anyone who is trying to transfer I was just admitted into the medical diagnostics program with a 3.33 college GPA and only 30 credits from a CC. Found out today!!!
