Chances of being moved into class if you're waitlisted.

I am currently #7 on the waitlist for CHE 2C (with lecture, lab, and discussion.) My friend (who is #3 on the waitlist) is certain we will get in but I am not so certain. Could anyone please tell if my friend is just being too optimistic or if she’s right?

It usually depends on the professor, number of physical seats in the classroom, ideal class size for the topic, etc.

I started off as 18th on one waitlist two weeks before classes started and one the day they started. I got into both. I was 6th on the waitlist for another class last spring (waitlisted three weeks prior). Didn’t get in.

Professors usually give priority to the highest on the waitlist, although at one of my colleges, they don’t have to do so. The class where I was 18th on the start day had a professor who already knew me well.

If yours is a summer section, I’d guess that it’s more likely you’ll get in, since summer plans change and people may drop.

Not even worth worrying about because you won’t have any control over it.

Contact the professor and ask what has happened in the past.
Also ask if you can attend class even if you don’t know if you got in yet.
