Long story short, I got a 1710 my first time and i recently took a prep course and about 5 practice tests which ranged from 1840 to 2070. I took the SAT today and I think I did really well, maybe 2050-2150. I have heard so many horror stories on CC about CB canceling scores due to rapid score increase. What do you think the chances of this happening to me are if I were to improve 400+ points?

Nada. Many people have improved and at most, your scores will only be delayed.

What does it mean if my scores are delayed? Obviously I would get them at a later time, but what does CB do during that time?

They do further investigations to see if they can find anything that indicates whether you cheated or not. (I think)

If you actually didn’t cheat, and it was a genuine score increase, you will be fine.

It was a genuine score, but how could they investigate whether or not I cheated? Ask the 60 year old man who proctored it to see if he could A) remember who I am or B) If I did anything that was suspicious. I am not that nervous about this happening, but I am just curious as to how they can pull evidence out of thin air.

What if my friends and I used the exact same two examples for our essays because we had just learned about the example in school and then we were discussing it the day before/waiting outside to go into the test center? Would they think we cheated or something?

it seems like you actually cheated. i can’t imagine someone who didn’t cheat asking this many questions and worrying this much. prepare your angus kid

Like I said, I am not that worried, but I have heard all the CC stories. I did not cheat what-so-ever and no reports where written by the proctor at all. I was the person who took the test and I checking in with my valid NJ drivers license do there is no question that it actually was me. I am curious because it seems like CB really screws over people who have extreme increases by making them retake the test in order to make the previous test valid. My last questions were less out of concern, more out of curiousity. I am just wondering how CB could possibly get evidence unless the proctor wrote something. It seems unfair to me. I did not cheat at all and am just curious.

dude…even if they suspected you of cheating and made you do a retest…so what? you would take the test again, and assuming you didn’t cheat, would receive a score in the same range. i just don’t get what the big deal is if you didn’t cheat

I certainly would receive in the same score range, but at this point I am past the point where I think this is going to happen to me. Now I am asking more out of curiosity. I just don’t like the fact that because of a score jump they can say, “we don’t believe you, do it again” as if it was a 25 minute test. I still need to take SAT II’s and I want to apply EA in September and October to my top choices. It would put a damper on how many more times I can take it before I am applying.
