It would also be helpful if you are/know someone who have been accepted into CS at UT and can post their stats! Thank you in advance!
UT-Austin is known to pick “too many” instate applicants (about 90% accepted are instate) and is known to also (heavily) look at class rank only, not GPA at all. With that being said, you have a great chance at UT-Austin as your class rank is exceptionally high. I’m not sure what state your are from, but if you are from Texas, you are near-guaranteed. But still as an out of state, you have a great chance. I would recommend sending SAT score over ACT if you are considering sending higher of the two.
I am a computer science-major student, too, currently attending University of Maryland, College Park. This post is bringing back the memory of the time when I forget to apply to UT-Austin in time in senior year, as it was one of my top choice CS schools!
@HardOREasy
Sorry!! I forgot to mention that I live in Texas.
When I applied for the SAT and ACT, I had an option to send in my scores for free.I had previously sent my SAT score (1450) to colleges of my choice, but not knowing that my ACT score would be much lower than my SAT score, I sent it in too. Would that affect how they see my scores? I regret sending in my ACT score without knowing…
Also, thank you so much for the helpful reply!! I greatly appreciate it.
Sending both won’t hurt you. Honestly, I don’t see much difference in score between your ACT and SAT. Besides, I think you are pretty much guaranteed for UT-Austin with your class rank, so I don’t think you have to worry about it. In addition, because you are female (considered minority for CS major), you will have a higher chance of getting in than many other male applicants.
@HardOREasy Whew!! Thank you for your reply. I will continue to work hard and hopefully ill be admitted in! Thank you again and I hope you have a great day! (:
I think your chances are good. My daughter got accepted for CS with a 1520 SAT score but your math score is higher than hers. She did have 2 years of HS CS. She was a NMF which would have helped her chances. Again, I think you have a good shot but do apply to other schools. There are no guarantees with UT and I have seen too many students that should have gotten in but did not.
@GTAustin Thank you for your helpful reply! Congratulations to your daughter for getting in and being a NMF! I am planning to also apply for UTD and A&M.
@reginaxchen, my daughter actually ended up at UTD for many reasons and has not regretted her choice at all. Just wanted to let you and others know that there are other good choices of schools out there. UT has a great CS program but other schools offer good programs that could be a better fit and give you the same result - a high paying job.
