Chances of getting a Single Room with Single Bath or a single on campus apt??

Hi,

I am really hoping to get into IU and have been researching it a lot. I just have some questions about the dorm/apartment situation. I know you are only allowed to choose the neighborhood you want to be in as a freshman, but are there any ways to increase your chances of getting into a single room with a single bath. Are on campus apartments with single room and single bath out of the question for freshman also?? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as this is a main concern of mine.

Forget the private bathroom…

You will be guaranteed a single room as a Freshman Residence Scholar since they are all in Ashton which only has single rooms. They also get a break on the price.

Look into it.

thank you for your response. Is that the only way your guaranteed a single room,if your a freshman residence scholar.
i know the other residence halls have single rooms, is it jut kind of luck of the draw when you choose your neighborhood? And how can you become a residence scholar?

do you know the application process, will it ask you if you want to be part of rps, and if you decide yes, and decide to maybe work at the library etc,. can you still get a single room.

The app process is pretty straightforward with RPS as a Freshman and does not allow for much specific choice unless you have a medical need or are LGBT. The process is what’s described on the RPS site. Working at RPS buys you nothing. RAs in the dorms can’t even request a building for their assignments!

Applying for an LLC like Res Scholars is the only way to get more specific than a neighborhood. Other LLCs are also located in specific dorms with specific features, so that’s the smart way to request a building as a Freshman. However there are still no guarantees.

Getting a single vs other formats is a crap shoot except with Ashton where it’s all singles. You can request what you like, but the hand of RPS can be mysterious. I can attest to Res Scholars at Ashton being a great choice and I don’t know anyone who was denied that choice unlike other LLCs where many are denied.

Adjusting to the environnent is just part of life, so my advice is not to worry too much about this issue.
