Chances of getting accepted into Boston College?

Hello! I am applying to Boston College. It is on the top of my list but I don’t think I’ll get in, just curious as to if I should bother applying… I have pretty solid scores but I don’t have too much community involvement.

This probably isn’t much to list but here is what I’ve got, I am not from Massachusetts.
GPA: Weighted: 3.85 Unweighted: 3.745
ACT: 31
I have Strong Letters of Recommendation

I’ve played on the Tennis team from 9th to 11th
I have been on the Golf team from 10th to 12th
I also have been a part of Band and Marching Band all throughout High school. (and did choir in 9th grade).
I am also a part of the French Club but that probably doesn’t mean much.

I have been playing the piano since I was 4 years old as well. I am religious as well and go to church.
Over the summer I coached tennis in the community to little kids. It was a sort of Tennis Camp.
(If it matters, I was a sales associate at multiple places as well)

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!! Thanks!

you should def apply! your scores are in the range and you seem to do a variety of things. i think if you write a solid essay too you actually have a pretty good shot. the college process is a total crapshoot and you never know if you don’t apply!

You might want to consider taking your ACT’s again- if possible and super-score it. Otherwise, write a killer essay and have great EC’s.

@paigejohnsonplayssoccer Yea, I’m def going to apply because I couldn’t stand regretting if I didn’t!

@bbfan1927 Unfortunately I don’t have any more time to take the ACT again before deadlines but I am working hard on my essay!

@bbfan1927 How important are the essays for BC? I understand they don’t track interest, but if you convey your interest in the essays, will they be responsive to that?

Of course you may be accepted. You have a strong record of achievement. Congrats. But to say it is probable is not being honest. Over 7 out 10 students with the vast majority being very strong as well It is statistically more likely to get a deferral at this stage.

I’m not sure, I read up on the college data that they take essays into account quite a bit.

Negative…I would focus more on a killer essay than one that focuses on interest…Lots of students are VERY interested in BC…There are LOTS of REALLY smart students here…UBER smart and many smart students don’t get it. 9 years ago my brother got DENIED BC - the only school that denied him. but accepted to Bucknell, Northeastern, Lafayette, Villanova, BU… Your ACT and GPA fall into the lower 25% so you have your work cutout for you. …Also, which school are you applying to and what is your intended major?

ps…I do think your band experience may be your ace in the hole…all schools need a band and they literally recruit down to the actual instruments needed to complete the band.
