I have a 3.04 GPA and I'm In ASB, and have done some volunteer work. I applied to UCM,UCR,UCSD,UCSB,UCI & UCSC. what are my chances of getting accepted to atleast one?

i think ull get into UCM or even UCR

If you qualify for admission to the UC system, you are guaranteed a spot at one of the campuses. In practice that means Merced or Riverside.

not Riverside now that Merced is the catch-all… with 3.04 just Merced.

I think that GPA falls below the average for all UCs, so at best I would say that you’ll get into Merced.

assuming that is your UC gpa, your chances are 100% into Merced (who takes anyone who is breathing and meets the minimal qualifications). But before going off to a major research Uni with barely a B average, you should ask yourself, ‘Why?’. Unless your gpa has extenuating circumstances…

this thread highlights an interesting overlap between UCs and CSUs.

Whereas a 3.04 UC GPA is guaranteed admission into UC Merced, at $28,000 COA, such an applicant would likely NOT gain admittance to many of the $21k COA CSUs: both Cal Polys, San Diego, Long Beach, Fullerton, San Jose, etc. Interesting breakdown in the CA Master Plan for higher education. All this because some politician/s decided to put the 9th UC out in the middle of farmland and not near any population center. What a bonehead idea. I WANT THEIR NAMES!! :)

Dunnin’: One of the major sponsors of UC expansion into the Valley, was the current Mayor of LA, back when he was in the Legislature…The Regents only went along bcos the State Legislature forced their hand.

I read somewhere that 58,000 applications were received at UCSC this year for Fall 2011. My 4.0 daughter probably won’t get in!!

With all the California budget woes, she’ll probably go private with some $$ from privates…

I also read that UC Merced is the only fall back school in the UC system as UC Riverside has become too popular… Shudder…That is pretty frightening!!

KeeterMom, your daughter does not need to worry. Last year, UCSC accepted 64% of the total applicant pool. For those applicants with a 4.00 and above UC GPA, the admit rate was 97%.

For the OP, UC Merced’s admit rate for applicants with a 3.00-3.29 UC GPA was 89% last year. Note that the rate dropped to 15% for applicants with UC GPAs below 3.00.

Last year, UC Riverside accepted 70% of the applicants with a UC GPA between 3.00-3.29.

Yes, but those numbers also include students who applied but ultimately did not meet the minimal requirements, such as not passing Alg II, or failing to complete the VAPA, or foreign language requirement, failing to complete the subject tests, or, D’s senior year resulting in a rescission…
