I’m currently a senior in high school applying for freshman admission at SDSU
My GPA is 3.69 on the CSU calculator
I took the SAT and received a 1550/2400. I’m taking another this Saturday and (hopefully) planning to score a lot better.
I just submitted my application and listed my intended major as ‘anthropology’. Admittedly, this really isn’t my top interest but I listed it with hope for a better possibility of getting accepted :-S Minor in English, my actual interest…
I have a feeling my chances are a long shot. I’m from New York as well, so that really isn’t helping me. Really hoping I do well on this next SAT, but otherwise how am I looking? This is, literally, my dream school.
What is your Math and CR score from your 1st SAT?
CSU’s use the eligibility index to rank applicants by major.
(CSU GPA x 800) + (SAT Math+CR). SDSU likes to see an EI of 4100 to be competitive for all majors.
If your CSU GPA is 3.69, you need at least an SAT score of 1150 to have a decent chance at an acceptance.
The acceptance rate for Anthropology last year was 28% which is actually lower than the overall acceptance rate for the campus of 31%. Since SDSU is an impacted campus, all majors are competitive. You should have applied to your first choice major which is English (I presume). English had a 36% acceptance rate last year.
The Cal States are very happy to accept OOS applicants since OOS applicants pay higher tuition to attend. Did you run the Net Price Calculator to make sure that SDSU will be affordable without financial aid?
$39K/year?
Probably not but, you aren’t so far out of range that it isn’t worth applying.
Check out USD and LMU (privates with reputations of generous financial aid).
CSULB is another option.
Be aware though, there will be no financial aid at CSUs or UCs.
1030 combined for math and CR: 500 for math and 530 for reading…
I immediately ended up regretting the whole major thing- pondered about it for days and when I finally just did it and submitted my app I knew I should’ve just put English :-S
As for affordability, my parents and I have had our discussions… But before it all I at least want to see if I can get accepted- getting ahead of myself will lead to a harder fall.
