I'm a junior at a high school near Houston.
7/424 in my class. Top 2% of the class.

GPA:
Weighted 5.0 Plus Rank GPA: 5.072
College 4.0 (REG) GPA: 3.572 (This is what it says on my transcript, but it doesn't seem accurate to me.)

I always take the highest level classes I can in AP or Pre-AP. Next year I'm taking AP Calculus BC, Statistics AP, AP Computer Science II AB, Spanish 4 AP, Physics AP, Dual Enrollment ENGL 1301 & 1302 at Local College, as well as taking Pre-Calculus and Computer-Aided Drafting at Local College for Credit.

My SAT scores: (From Practice Tests. I'm officially taking it in March & June.)
CR:620
M:710
W:620

(I'm taking the SAT Subject Test Mathematics Level One in May and Mathematics Level Two in the Fall.)

Extra Curriculars (in Summary): Varsity Cheerleader and Track Runner, Student Council, National Honor Society, Interact Club, Spanish Club, Teen Library Volunteer, Red Cross Volunteer, Mu Alpha Theta (Math Club).

I want to apply to the CAEE at Cockrell. My 1st choice is Architectural Engineering & 2nd is Civil Engineering.

Is there anything else I can do to help improve my chances for this school? How bad is everything right now? Feel free to be honest. Do give me suggestions though.

^ He/She wouldn’t be automatically in even if he/she improves their SAT scores.
I believe they’re good enough to get into engineering, especially with a great class rank.

You’re probably right. I just remember reading that someone here in cc was told (last year) that Engineering didn’t even look at your application unless you had a 1500 CR/M. But that was probably for people outside of the top 2% now that I think about it.

But improving your SAT score is always a good idea b/c you never know if you might change your mind and want to go somewhere that actually looks at them… like Rice. Of course, that’s coming from someone who bought the practice books and all they did was clutter up my kitchen counter for a year! But it sounds like guitarismysoul is already practicing, so that’s great. Your actual scores might even surprise you and be better than your practice tests.

I think the 1500 M/CR you are referring to was for the honors program, not general admission into Engineering. The engineering department seems to focus on rank and SAT only. EC’s etc don’t seem to matter. I imagine the op would be accepted, but those scores are also only practice tests. I would encourage anyone to also sign up for the ACT. Sometimes, your score is significantly higher and UT converts it into a comprable SAT score.

Yeah I remember that thread. The 1500 M/CR score was definitely referring to Engineering Honors.
But with that rank and a 1950 you should be into Engineering. I’d try to raise that SAT I math score above 750 and do equally well on the Math II just to be solid though. And from what I’ve seen, there’s not much of a reason to take the Math Level I test, especially if you are taking Lvl 2.

Well Mathematics Level 2 is supposed to test
algebra 1
geometry
algebra 2
and precalculus

I’m in precalculus now, and I took a PRACTICE mathematics Level 2 test, and I honestly didn’t know what was going on with most of those problems. But with the Mathematics Level 1 test, all I have to do is review some stuff and I can do good on it because it’s stuff I’ve forgotten. With teh Mathematics Level 2 Test… it’s stuff I’ve never even heard of!

Take math 2. Math 2 is way easier to get a higher score than math 1. With your rank and your current SAT scores, you’ll be fine if you want to get into Cockrell. It’s all about the rank at UT unless you want to get into the honor programs.
