New member, sorry if this is in the wrong forum
So I want to do an REU for biology involving either plant genomics, or molecular biology.
I’m a white female, go to UNT (not so great public uni), have a 4.0 gpa, am a sophmore biochemistry major, and have little research experience bc my school has few opportinities.
If I have good LORs and a stellar personal statement, what are my chances of getting into ANY (even lower tier) REUs? I’m going to apply to 10-15.
Thank you, I appreciate any advice!
Be sure to apply for a range. And don’t overlook opportunities at your own university, either. REUs are a little hit and miss; they can be great or not-so-great experiences. One of my kids decided to take the sure thing at her college one summer instead of a couple of REUs she’d gotten accepted to because she knew the prof and thought the research was interesting, and could be more sure of what her tasks would be. But I think REUs are meant for students like you if there really isn’t much opportunity at your own school.
