I'm currently attending community college right now and I really want to transfer to a UC. I'm doing the IGETC program which have certain classes and courses to help me get to where I want to be. I just thought that maybe I wanted to major in computer science. If I don't take the courses in community college to get into computer science but still have enough credit to transfer to a UC (60 transferable units) would the university still allow me to take a computer science course? Please, I really need help with this and I'm just a freshman. Thanks! :)

There’s a thing called Assist.org it tells you the classes you SHOULD take for your major, but UCLA requires them to be done before admission and UCB will allow you to do them in your first semester, all the other UC’s sure you can get in it’s possible but you won’t be as competitive as someone who has completed them for admission and the UC’s will not want to admit you because you’ll likely be there longer completing lower division and upper division major coursework, so short answer yes, long answer maybe

Berkeley will not want you to complete it your first semester. You should have them done, period. The prereqs that need to be completed the first semester should be the ones that can only be taken once transferring.

And no. You must complete the prereqs before for computer science. And such a major is difficult to get into in the first place. You must have an exceptional GPA.

@Ocnative - I think one could get into UCR and UCM with a sub 3.0 GPA for CS and lack of much MP (2.9+)

UCSB probably a 3.4-3.45 though if missing MP

UCD probably a 3.5-3.6 with lacking MP.

The others I’m unsure about

The main UC’s that I have in mind are ucsb and ucla. I live in Berkeley so no to ucb
