Chances of getting in as a transfer??

So I applied to UMass Amherst as a transfer student for the fall 2015 for my Sophomore year from UMass Boston. I was just wondering what are my general chances of getting in as a transfer. I applied back in December and I’m waiting to hear back now.

College GPA: 3.15
HS GPA: 3.06
SAT: 1310 (plz don’t laugh haha)
Major: Communication
Credits taken first semester: 14
Credits taken now: 9

Thanks guys!

Your college GPA is below the average for accepted transfers (3.3). But you may have a chance if you have ECs and a good essay to make up for it.

alright, because also the transfer admission page says the minimum GPA is a 2.7.

The minimum GPA you must have is 2.7, but the average GPA of those admitted is a 3.3. I think UMass requests midterm grades do you know how your midterm grades are?

Well I don’t think they look at midterm grades because my school is semester based, but they emailed me saying they were only going to look at my first semester grades. But I also figure that I’ll be hearing back before semester grades are out in late may.

A UMass Amherst rep came to my school and said that most of the people that they reject are the ones with 2 point something GPAs. Plus your major isn’t one of the really competitive ones so I think you have a shot! Is UMA the only school you applied to?

oh awesome! Yea, UMA is the only school I applied to. My essay was basically all the reasons I wanted to go there so it wouldn’t have worked for any other school haha.

Haha that’s great. I hope you get in! Would you live on-campus?

yup I will! I’m also worried because my application status still doesn’t say it’s Under Review and still says Complete Application.

That’s weird, and you applied way earlier than me. Mine has been under review since January, the rep assured me that I would receive a decision Mid-Late April. I am getting really anxious! Maybe you should call? Have you visited UMass yet?

wow! I emailed them asking why my application wasn’t under review on Tuesday and they told me they were forwarding it to a transfer counselor and that would respond ASAP and nothings happened. and i’m super anxious too! I feel like I should call. I’ve been to UMass about three times since October to see friends and I’ve stayed over and really gotten to know the campus. Did you call them?

I got an email yesterday and I did not get into the CS program, instead I have to choose an alternate major. I called them to ask how hard it is to switch into CS later and they said the transfer counselor would get back to me in about 2 days. Its the weekend so I don’t expect a call until Tuesday. But you should definitely call!

oh wow, CS is a hard major to get into. it’s really good that you have the option to choose an alternate major! I bet you’ll hear back really soon! I called twice on Friday. The first time I called they said that online stuff wasn’t being updated right away but I should hear in the next week and a half. The second time they said that my application has to go under review before anything happens, but if I were to miss something, it would say incomplete, but everything is in. ugh, it’s so annoying. If it means that I have to change my major, I’ll take it haha

Yeah I’m a bit disappointed, but at least this means the school still wants me. Oh and they also midyear grade requested me which is making me scared because I’m not doing so great in my English class :frowning: Hopefully we both get decisions this month

that’s great they still want you! a councelor emailed me in Jan asking about my classes because I’m a part time student this semester and apparently it’s better if I’m full time, which makes sense. I know you’ll totally get in!

I have sent in my midyear report along with my alternate major form and the admissions counselor said I would hear within 2 weeks! If you don’t mind me asking what don’t you like about UMassB?

I applied March 23 and got yes from admissions yesterday and it was postmarked April 10, so hopefully everyone else will be hearing soon

@gps365 Mind sharing your stats?

Just got a call from home, and the big envelope came in today. It was postmarked April 10  my spire page still says under review. Good luck guys, and I hope everyone else gets a decision soon.
