Chances of getting in at Cornell?

I would really like to go to the engineering school at Cornell, and I was wondering what my chances are. I would apply Early Decision, as Cornell is my first choice school.

Here are my stats:

I'm a white male from a small public school in the suburbs of Minnesota. My school very rarely sends anyone to a top school(I doubt it has ever sent anyone to an Ivy League).

GPA: 3.992 Unweighted (All As except one A- from Spanish 2 in 9th Grade)
Rank: 3/191

ACT: 35 Composite (36 Reading, 35 English, 34 Math, 33 Science), 10 of 12 in Writing
I'll be taking the SAT Subject tests soon.

AP: So far I've only taken the AP US History exam, which I got a 4 on. I took the AP Stats test, I'm expecting a 5, the AP World History test, which I'm expecting a 4 maybe a 5 on, and the AP Spanish test, which I'm expecting a 1 or 2 on (Let's just say Spanish isn't my strong suit, probably won't report that score, lol :))

I've taken the most rigorous course load I could, the one exception being that I didn't take Honors English in 9th grade.

Extracurriculars:
-Quiz Bowl, from 10th grade on (Our A Team, which I am a member of, qualified for the State and National tournament, if that counts for anything)
-Science Olympiad, from 10th grade on (I got 1st in my regional event, and placed relatively well in the state tournament)
-Math League, from 10th grade on
-NHS
-Fencing for 5 years (Although I quit a couple months back, it was just taking up too much time and I've been very busy lately)

Awards, etc:
-National Merit Semi-Finalist?(I haven't been told yet, but I got a 219 on the PSAT and last year's cutoff for Semi-Finalist in MN was 214-215, so I think I have a very good shot)
-Boy's State Delegate
-Distinguished student in Biology, A Honor Roll, blah blah, more of the usual filler stuff :P

Community Service:
Not much of this, unfortunately.
-Several hours of helping out in various things at church
-maybe 10 hours of various community service with NHS(Raking leaves for people who wouldn't be able to themselves, will be cleaning up trash along the streets, helping with recycling)
-Helping a local organization, 4EverGreen, clean up the streets around town for several hours

Thanks in advance for responding! :D

nice act score. just make sure you score 750+ on the subject sats and you'll be good to go. avoid generic essays, and you're in! i think you have a good shot because of where you're coming from and your overall academic profile. good luck.

Thanks :). Anyone else have any input?

if you early your chances are really good. wow 35 act good job. your ecs are ok. being from minnesota probably helps. you shoudl probably take satIIs like mathII and a science. i think engineering has satII requirments on their website.

yay, minnesota! okay, that was possibly the most unhelpful post ever.

another yay for MN here lol ^^ haha
The same was true with my high school; most of the kids just went either to the U of M or other state colleges and universities! But I think you definitely have a good chance, great stats and EC’s, just write some passionate essays! Best of luck ;)

since you are applying to engineering, you might want to choose some math/science sat subject tests. good stats, average ec's, but as long as you're making the most of what your school offers, you have a chance.

great chance

lets just say I'm from MN and got into AEM regular decision with a 27 ACT, 3.947 gpa, 11/103 class rank, but with decent essays and extracurriculars/passion. You have a great chance. (Boys State Delegate as well, high five).

how does that help the OP?

You have a decent chance. It's hard to say, though - I'm fairly similar to you, and I got off the waitlist (I'm from Minnesooota, too!).

Best of luck!
