Chances of getting in at Tech

Im a Senior in highschool. I have a 3.94 GPA currently. I'm African American.

I havent taken any honors or AP classes until this year.
Im in Honors Analysis, my grade for the 1st semester was a 78 :( without the 5pt boost. I really screwed up 1st term, but im definitely going to make atleast a low A this semester.
Im taking physics as well this year, and made a 93 first semester.
Im 31 out of about 400 in my class

My full SAT was a 1540
i did really horrible on math (490)
Critical Reading (530)

I play tennis freshman, junior, and senior year
played quarterback my freshman and sophmore year
Im currently in NHS
I also took a leadership program my sophmore year, and graduated

my FI is 2990

Wow. Is your GPA unweighted or weighted?

Your high school rigor sounds great–keep trying to get A’s. Class rank is fine as well. You may want to think about being involved in a few significant EC’s–ones that actually mean something to you. NHS is fine, but its not a meaningful club/society. Something like Science Olympiad, or MUN, or something you can substantiate your passion will stand out. But you’re 1540, really, is what’s killing you. If you can’t make around 2000, Tech is probably not the school for you. You should aim for at least 650 on Math and CR. I understand you get what you get, but I’m not sure if Tech will admit a 1540. Maybe try the ACT? Aim for 30+ on that and you should be alright.

I already sent my application, and its past the deadline. Do you think i can retake the SAT again before decisions are made? Or would an SAT Subjects test help?

Did you turn in you app before the deadline? And if you took the SAT today they would have accepted it.

does your school offer APs?

“My full SAT was a 1540
i did really horrible on math (490)
Critical Reading (530)”

Big reach, sorry man.

My school does offer AP classes. I sent my app a week before the deadline. I didnt take the SAT today, so is there anything i can do or am i S.O.L?

sorry, but if you didnt take any AP classes, you really dont have that good of a chance with low test scores.

You will not get into Tech with a 490 math. Also, your freshman index is calculated based on an unweighted GPA (your GPA without the “point boost”).

If you would like me to suggest alternative schools in Georgia that might be matches based on your statistics, please post all of your grades like this:

9th Grade
Geometry - 78 (+5 honors = 83)
English 9 - 92
US History - 93 (+7 AP = 100)

etc…

UPDATE
I also signed up for the Air Force ROTC program. I applied to Virginia Tech as well, does it seem like i have a better chance there? Also, I got accepted to the Citadel in south carolina, but im waiting on decisions from tech.

Virginia Tech is generally an easier school for admissions, but even there, you’re below the interquartile range on all SAT sections.

Again, it would really help us if you posted your grades each semester in order to calculate an unweighted GPA.
