Chances of getting in (how much does legacy count)

Hi everyone, i was just wondering about my chances of admission and i thought someone here could help. I’m a double legacy at Michigan (both my parents went), and my brother goes. I’ve had other relatives attend and work there also. I’m from New York. Based on the numbers on the UMich website, both my SAT scores and GPA are around the 25 percentile mark. I’ve expressed to the school many times that it’s my top choice. Do you think i can get in?

Legacy counts for something but if you are in the 25th percentile, I would honestly say that your odds aren’t that great. With that being said there are a lot more factors that matter than just GPA/SAT score, so depending on your race, ECs, essays, LOR, and luck, that might change, but honestly even with great ECs/essays/whatever, it’s hard to overlook the fact that you have rather low GPA/SAT scores for a UMich applicant
