Chance threads, I've come to learn, are at the best pointless. None of us here are the individuals who will read and debate over your application. Apply, pray, hope for the best, and see. If you get rejected, so be it, when one door closes - another one opens.

and you're a senior next year at bronx sci..., and you just started taking APs your senior year?

things don't look good man, bronx sci is a top school from what I've heard... if you just started taking APs your senior year, you obviously did not take the most rigorous course load.

but hey, admissions is a crapshoot, everyone has a shot.

collegebond78: I don't see how's that possible...

I live in a suburb above NYC, Rockland County. My school isn't that famous as yours but most of our "top students" started taking APs since sophomore year and would have collected at least 6 APs+ by the time they graduate.

From what I've heard, STUY, Bronx Sci, and brooklyn tech are the top schools in NYC, hardest to get into... sends many students to top colleges... how can seniors take only 4 APs?

You list macro, micro, calc bc, and bio... what happened to euro hist, american hist, global hist, chem, eng lit, eng lang, art history, a whole bunch of foreign languages and physics b and c?.... I'm surprised that a school of bronx sci's calibur doesn't have those APs.

I had a friend who 8 APs and still had to struggle to get into Johns Hopkins, top 10%, 1540 SAT, research and the whole shabang... not to mention sports like track and cross country.

Ocean, I go to one of those top schools you mentioned . . . I've only taken 4 APs including senior year and I was admitted into Brown. Demonstarted interest in your intended major is more important I think . . .

theodorant thank you. I think you have actually given me hope.

I desire to be a doctor/dentist and would like to major in neuroscience in college.

Here are my related activities.

Research project on neuroscience (with which I will submit an abstract to Brown)
Pre-med club freshman and junior year
Key club junior and senior year-Distinguished Key Clubber Award
Job at Hospital in the summer between sophomore and junior year
Summer Internship at American Lung Association
200 hours of community service
and Maybe even Columbia Science Honors Program
4 year dental internship

Plus I expect to have really good test scores
Good recs
Good essays since i come from a very bad childhood yet I have survived
Good senior year class selection
4 honors classes so far

Your guidance counselor has a better answer for you than anyone in this thread. The stats are out there, and you fall within range of admitted students which means you have the same chance as 80% of applicants so apply and do a good job not he app and hope.

I only took 3 APs during my time at Bronx Science, all in my senior year. Brown accepted me.

Don't worry too much about all that. Just focus on doing as well as you can in the classroom, SPEND TIME on your essays, and just hope for the best.
